  • Hard News: Conversation Starters,

You mean like the liquor store attached to the Gull station in New North Rd?

There's one of those on Te Atatu Road as well. But somehow it's a little more unnerving to go in, pay for petrol, and buy a fifth of whisky from the same hapless clerk during the same transaction.

  • Up Front: The Home Straight,

a seaside village pretty like any other

Perhaps it was just the day I went, which was amazing, but I thought Akaroa was stunningly beautiful. I had a swim at their little beach and took a boat ride to look at the caves around the peninsula... it was lovely.

  • Hard News: The song is not the same,

endless sniping at credibility is pretty insulting

The 'you set yourself up as some kind of expert but you don't know shit about dick' followed by 'I was only joshing, lighten up!' thing is a recurrent robbery discussion ploy. He did it with Russell for months, if you all remember...

Of course, I *truly* don't know shit about dick, so I can't really contribute to this in any meaningful way. :)

  • Hard News: Conversation Starters,

It still weirds me out a little that I can buy the hardest of spirits from smallest, meanest convenience store.

In Louisiana you can buy hard liquor from a petrol station. (!)

  • Up Front: Will Work for Foo,

I am sitting in a dingy, windowless cubicle with coffee in a travel mug after commuting for an hour. I hope you work-from-homers take this in the fond and tender spirit in which it is intended:

    I hate you all. :)

No, it's nothing personal. I'm from New Zealand, we all swear like that.

Once I (kind of unwittingly) used 'twat' in a graduate history seminar in Houston. I could peripherally see my fellow students freeze around the table, and then feel/watch the group all force themselves to relax. 'Oh you crazy foreigner! No, we are down with your crazy irreverance! Really!'

Asparagus pee-smell is uncanny. It appears so fast, too!

  • Random Play: @fltfoxz. Gr8. C u 2moro,

    the Creation Museum

Of the many themed road trips I have a hankering to do, 'Crazy Roadside Attractions of the USA' is totally one of them. The Creation Museum would make a great double bill with The Holy Land Experience in Florida (daily reenactments of the Passion of the Christ!). I also desperately want to see the Weeki Wachee Mermaids show in the same state. Sometimes I spend hours flailing around on Roadside America just looking at all the crazy and wondrous things I could experience, had I but world enough and time.

However, the Ohio Theater really is something else.

OMGsquee, etc. And their other theatres aren't too shabby either! Does this mean I have to go to Columbus OH now?

I always thought the best part about CSN&Y was Neil Young after he left them.

Good point. I always wondered how the generally inoffensive Nash could stand to hang out with Crosby and Stills without Young there. They're both so very... douchey.

in a beautiful 1920s theatre that would put the Civic to shame

    Oh. No. You. Didn't.

I love old theatres so much that I'll travel out of my way to see them. I even did a walking tour of Radio City Music Hall (I had my photo taken with a Rockette!), but you must not get all damned-with-faint-praise on The Mighty Civic, Jake, for it is glorious. Seriously, I'll come to Pittsburgh and cut you. ;)

    they-sound-like-Coldplay-for-groovers stance

No, CSNY! (I think their live performance chops are way better than their actual songs, mind you.)
