  • Up Front: Respectably-Dressed Sensible…, in reply to Julie Fairey,

Seeing Shane Jones there was... dispiriting in the extreme.

And Tau Henare. *sigh* Gave him a wee serve on Twitter starting with "Sweetie, I was a Tory when you were still Winnie's tame bitch..." Really must stay off-line when I've my flu-induced rage on...

And what it means for me is that no one, ever, asks for or deserves rape.

Well, quite. You can count the number of times I've worm long trousers on one hand, but what that signifies regarding my sexual availability is precisely nothing. (Nor do I think our host's rather fetching bike shorts are screaming "give it to me animal vagina brains".) Perhaps "slut" can never be reclaimed -- God knows I'm sceptical about similar arguments around terms like "queer" & "nigger", which I'd never ever use as self-definition or put up being labelled with by anyone. But the attitudes behind such words that enable and perpetuate rape culture (and the degradation of people who don't conform to 'appropriate' cis-gendered appearance and behaviour) need to be challenged by all means necessary.

  • Up Front: Respectably-Dressed Sensible…, in reply to Heather Gaye,

The poor innocent men are now apparently required to police themselves *and* their friends, while crazy females are allowed to run irresponsibly rampant.

Widdums... really tempted to front with this sign: MANSLUT - OWNING MY PENIS SINCE PUBERTY

But this issue sails close to ‘well he looked like a poof / acted like one so we beat him up.’

Well, yes. Isn't it funny how slut-shaming rape culture and the culture that says fags and trannies are just asking to be be kicked to death are joined at the hip?

And, sorry guys, but challenging rape culture is no more woman's work than doing the washing up.

And yes, you can never tell what's going to trigger someone,

And, oddly enough, folks who've survived sexual assaults, domestic violence or other forms of abuse don't use a special font on-line -- and I certainly didn't disclose being sexually assaulted to anyone for over twenty years for a reason. So, anyone who is tempted to trot out a man-splain or two, consider that there's probably more than a few PA readers who don't need it. Or welcome it.

They also ignore the top experts in the world by spouting such trash.

It's also fair to point out that folks like Fernando Cardoso, Ernesto Zedillo, George Shultz and Paul Volcker aren't exactly bongwater drinking stoners looking for an excuse to get high.

with a side order of the Global Commission on Drug Policy report that was published yesterday.

Sigh... that made depressing reading, in a good(-ish) kind of way. I'm not drug policy nerd, but it struck me as a clear, tightly argued statement of the bleeding obvious -- the so-called "war on drugs" isn't achieving anything worth the doing. I expect it to be completely ignored by the very people who should be paying attention.

One cover of Wuthering Heights I’m rather fond of is this retro swing treatment from the Puppini Sisters… Creeps me out, in a rather jolly way.

And for a bit of pre-Friday You Tube fun – Crazy in Love (The Real Tuesday Weld Remix):

FFS, I’m still perfectly happy with cock-up trumping conspiracy but damn… Foley’s birth must have been a hell of ride, what with those clown shoe-ready feet and all. Speechless.
