  • Hard News: Privacy and the Public Interest,

Danyl's bias adjusted tracking poll has National on 44.7% which is a very different proposition. The Dom Post (and Stuff as a result) has always been right-wing, I think most Wellingtons realise that but it still frames their discussions and votes. There's nothing we can do about it apart from provide an alternative media outlet - much like MJ Savage did in establishing Radio NZ.

"having suddenly acquired the means to retain a Queen’s Counsel" I wonder who is funding the QC?

  • Speaker: Telling Our Own Tales,

Gerard is absolutely right. ALL the regions are neglected cos the current setup with a govt that requires a profit and no more from TVNZ. The need for regional public service tv is felt more keenly in Chch obviously.

Of course the way to change things is at the election. People!!!

  • Hard News: Show some decency,

It seems that everyone close to bearing some responsibility is in total denial, with the exception of David Fisher. Typical of the whole dirty business, politics and media gamesters to dish dirt without any selfawareness or ethics.

Reporters and news media need to be careful because if they can't be seen to control themselves, others might want to do it for them - ie a statutory regulatory body.

  • Hard News: Earning Confidence, in reply to Shaun Lott,

Margin of error is correct at the 50% point, it drops relative to distance from 50%, so when a party polls around 3-5% margin for error would be less than .5%. Yet another way reporters fail to correctly report polls.

  • Hard News: Earning Confidence,

Guy Williams is moderating the Auckland Broadcasting Debate on Sunday at 6.30pm - Pioneer Women's Hall, High St, AK CBD

I'm expecting it to be a bit of a doozy as we have two new extra guests on the panel - Colin Craig and Laila Harre as well as broadcasting specialists from Nat/Lab/Greens. More info is available at www.betterbroadcasting.co.nz

I know I sound like a broken record but this is a result of commercial news media. For comparison see a non commercial version - no mention of Corkery going apeshit or Hacker Dotcom.

  • Hard News: In The Green Room, in reply to Samuel Scott,

I think you’ll find that quotas are not allowed under the GATS free trade agreement. Helen Clark talked about it and was quietly told its impossible without cancelling out of GATS. TPPA has content quota restrictions too as they are seen as anti competitive to international trade! Australia has quotas because they negotiated a subclause that allowed it. Our Broadcasting Minister in 1991 had the chance but chose not to. More info here – http://www.spada.co.nz/documents/Sub-WTODoc.pdf

"But the Herald’s editors presumably believe the value of her dull, clunky prose and facile zingers outweighs the reputational damage of showcasing someone who solicited a journalist’s address in the hope of “vicious” retribution."
