I've always liked this pic of me and my bro (he's in green with New Wave haircut). It captures so much of what made my childhood great. The boat, hand-built by my Dad's best friend Keith who made one for each of them, was the first in a line of boats that would be part of every summer for me until university age. The fish - well I could make an entire Tumblr titled My Family With Dead Things - because my dad had been a keen hunter in his youth and when mum bought the breaks on his guns he just switched to fishing. There was always fish at summer, wherever we were holidaying. As a kid I never like crayfish. It pains me to think of the huge crayfish I turned my nose up at then. The folly of youth.
This photo evokes that endless summer we had as kids. Never wearing shoes. Always tanned and frequently sun burnt. Smelling of salt and with matted hair cause who shampoos at the beach when your a kid?

Some shots from part of a family trip in 2008 that took in the US, Britain and bits of Europe (alas the highly planned and anticipated Italian section was cut short by a boy with a stomach complaint that cleared up 24 hours after we abandoned our plans).

But these shots are from Gozo, the smaller, less tourist developed island of the Malta group (not that Malta could be described as overly touristy).

I’ve been waiting for a nice, clear morning to get up early and go down to the Manukau for some golden light, but no, Auckland’s weather will not cooperate, presenting instead this grey fug every morning. So I went down anyhow this morning to see what I could do in B&W with grey grey light.

I was watching a BBC dramatisation of Kidnapped that was filmed in NZ, and they used North Head for several bits, including being a prison cell in one sequence - so yes it was an ISOlation unit!

In the tunnels under North Head, Devonport. Didn't have a tripod on that day so had to hand hold this at a high ISO.

That's great pic for a phone. In fact the low-fi nature of the phone image gives it a certain something. It looks almost like an image from the 19th century.

Some B&W conversions of older pics. At Meola inlet, and up Mt Hobson.
