And now for something different. If you were wondering what the Red Link bus driver does when not driving – here is a colleague of mine……..
– hope this works as I’m not sure how to embed things

Gee Tia - how fabulous are your photos - can't wait to see more. And M - how gorgeous is she!!

Well - it is great news for Labour and if National plotted it then their timing is very badly out and they have helped Labour immeasurably. Jones and all this will be old news in a few weeks given the media of the day. And when he has gone, he will not be able to sabotage any Labour electioneering with his avuncular, paternalist, conservative self-focused musings from within the party elite.
So true Robyn.Shane Jones always felt like he was operating from an arrogant, detached stance.

Hard News: Jones: The contender leaves, in reply to
But what about school bullying, workplace bullying, elderly abuse, road rage, punch ups in the car park and so on?
It all becomes 'normal behaviour' when you see domestic violence as normal behaviour from the time you are born. So singling out domestic violence and family sexual abuse is a very very good place to start and I am so pleased to see it brought up now.
Imagine if such topics as this were the election deciders instead of taxes on second homes etc. Perhaps the working class Labour (not all working class are Labour) might be encouraged and inspired to vote.
Middle class conservatives from all parties (pointer to Jones) have dictated the policies for so long and yet they wonder why there are so many non voters.

I for one welcome the change. For all he is quoted as a man of the people, I ( a white female feminist) personally think that Shane Jones has portrayed over the past years that he is a man for Shane Jones. While he has every right to leave the Labour Party whenever and for whatever reason, promoting the National party offer of a job (which he says he has not accepted yet) at the same time suggests to me a very high level of pique and personal animosity to the present Labour Caucus. For me though, the much better plus side is: being this far out from the election, it can only be seen as a positive that the Labour Party is turning into a party for the left in a timely way. Thank you McCully and Jones.

Well this sums up a lot of things for me. We were pretty poor (and scruffy I suppose – we are all so much cleaner and neater these days) but I was a very content child. This rare photo reflects how pleased my Mum and I were of growing the lily in a bit of spare land by the neighbours shed (full of so many interesting tools and shed stuff). The proper garden was full of vegetables with no room for flowers. It was summer mid 1950’s.

Hard News: Diverse Auckland: are we…, in reply to
yep - and on Dominion, Sandringham and Manukau Rds - Asian, Indian, and various Europeans all chattering away on their phones as well as to each other make an orchestra of language the bus norm. But the little gems of Kiwi drawl/inflection popping up within other accents, makes me smile as I see that as a real community evolving in a personal and unique way.
-
yes I agree - very diverse. As a bus driver I can see this, and even that bus users are perhaps more likely to be non European. Woo hoo there is hope for public transport.
One thing that I do like is hearing how enduring the typical 'Kiwi' accent is and the stages of it evolving.
