  • Hard News: Sunday blues, and we're on Sky,

Kyle, it's worse than that. It seems TVNZ caved and allowed Sky to have the Freeview channels without insisting on quid pro qui for Prime, which is still not available on Freeview. Missed opportunity there - although nice for Russ with the bigger potential audience and all.

lest we forget the rule for averting apostrophe catastrophe* "poss ess for possession" except when it's its property of course : )

The greengrocer's apostrophe can cause catastrophe.

  • Cracker: Death Beach,

    Twitter, meh.

On the more interesting part of your post, I was at Bowentown for the long weekend, and also noticed many, many pre-filleted snappers washing up (around my ankles whilst I was surfcasting) and making the seagulls happy (and the surfcasters unhappy, all I caught was crabs <tapes 'kick me' sign to back.)

  • Speaker: A day or two at Dramfest,

Author Ian Banks loved the drink enough to travel the whole of Scotland in search of the perfect "dram".

And apparently lost an i in the process...

  • Hard News: The Commercial Crunch,

Yup, nothing like that natural arsenic to give a healthy glow, or if you want doubleplusgood - natural, organic hemlock, as recommended by Socrates.

  • Island Life: Vendor says sell!,

Never heard about buying low? The market is due to rebound any minute now. You know, like in Japan.

    Dead cat bounce?

About 10 years back we had reason to break out of a fixed rate with Westpac (who may have been WestpacTrust then) while the floating rate was higher than what we were fixed at. They actually paid us money for breaking the fixed rate.
The last time I fixed my rate I mentioned that in passing to my mortgage manager and she said "yeah, we don't do that anymore". I wasn't shocked.

It will smell of victory. Or sweat, I guess.

I thought victory smelt like napalm? Or is that just in the morning, maybe in the afternoon it smells like sweat... If so, what does it smell like by late evening?

  • Hard News: Just Friday,

No mixed feelings here - travesty. Shit product, wasted cultural reference.

On the bright side, at least it doesn't fold, spindle and mutilate the language as much as the Harvey Keitel one. "When they said that Everest couldn't be conquered, you said no!"

VTNZ - What is with them! They say

Unlike many other testing stations and all garages, VTNZ doesn't carry out repairs - so our customers can be confident that we only fail vehicle when there is a safety issue. Our customers then take it to a repairer of their choice and tell them exactly what is required to be corrected to enable VTNZ to pass their vehicle and issue its warrant.

But when I took my caravan in for a quick WOF before going on holiday, they failed it for a couple of minor, easily fixable things, that I can't argue with, PLUS allegedly huge amounts of deep-set rust in the chassis.
So, no holiday, lug the caravan around to some of those repairers of my choice, who stood to make close to a grand on repairs, who all said "WTF are they on about? That's minor surface rust, not a safety issue, and not a fail." So they issued me a warrant (after I replaced the dodgy tyre and brake light). I'm not talking dodgy back-street workshops here, but very reputable name-brand dealer service centres.
