From Parliaments website celebrating the International Day of Democracy today...
This year’s theme highlights the role of parliament in holding the Government to account. The House has several processes through which it performs this role:
question time, when members ask Ministers questions about their portfolios
thousands of questions are asked to Ministers for reply in writing
spending of public money is examined by the House and select committees
the Government’s proposals to change the law are scrutinised
during debates, members raise matters of concern and express their views about the Government’s performance
select committees initiate inquiries and hold public briefings
members of the public promote petitions asking the House to investigate actions of government agencies, or seeking its action on a matter of public policy or law.All of which were abandoned yesterday.

Slater isn't so much suffering from depression as the downside of Narcissism, all publicity is good as far as he is concerned. The fact that his relationship with his father is rarely mentioned just bolsters my opinion that the Wailoil blog is part of Nationals machine as much as Kiwiblog is. It is the huge sense of entitlement that comes across in those quarters that exposes the meanness and shear hate of those concerned. The fact that Slater doesn't need to work because of his trust fund adds more to the hypocrisy of his attitude to those on the lower rungs of society. His demonization of those on ACC, whilst he complains about his insurance company withholding his benefits, says as much about his double standards as his refusal to accept the rule of law, pertaining to him, as he campaigns for harsher punishment of its infringers.

Security vetting isn't a test of "Can they do the job?" it's a test of "Can we trust them with secrets?" You don't have to be a saint to get a clearance,
The fact is that to be able to keep secrets you sometimes have to lie. Maybe they thought his bullshit was a good thing.

logy is talking, -graphy is writing.
Aha! but..
When we are writing and having a discussion, as we are here, we are talking in the sense depicted by the suffix -logy. You would be correct if you were referring to the "Graphics" of writing, as in calligraphy as the suffix -graphy refers to images and pictures rather than meaning and discussion. -
I have laughed at those who have coined the term "New Zealand's 911" but this act of political skulduggery is on a par with the USA's Patriot Act. To paraphrase Niemöller's famous quotation "First they came for our water... Then they came for our Trust accounts...
They say that the first casualty of War is truth so. is the first casualty of natural disaster Democracy? (well, apart from the victims of course)
I bet National cannot believe their luck.
However, there could be a silver lining. Brownlee could legalise Marijuana with a stroke of his ministerial pen. Yeah right. -
Cameron Slater's behaviour does not seem like depression to me, although I am no expert. His behaviour is akin to what I would expect from a spoilt child, throwing a tantrum for not getting his own way then sulking, complaining that it wasn't fair then blaming something outside of his control for his behaviour " I couldn't help it, I was upset"
Should we blame the parents? How many times have we had to hear about Paul homes every time his adopted daughter gets busted? Why are we hearing nothing here about Slater's wealthy father? or is there a self imposed name suppression thing going on here? -
Ah, returning to the "Good Old Days" Bring back Nightcarts in Christchurch and save money on rebuilding the sewers, after all it is all about saving money. Like the new Health Ministry Chief we are importing from the UK, he'll save heaps. Earlier this year, he oversaw the axing of 1500 nurse positions in Scotland. Good on ya National and JK, saving our "Hard Earned Money"™ for the rich.

True enough, but I'd like to propose a new sub-definition:
2. writing about earthquakes and their aftermath.
No, that is Seismology
Seismology (from Greek σεισμός, seismos, "earthquake"; and -λόγος, -logia, as a whole "Talking about earthquakes")

The problem with kind of sentiment is that is not far distant from 'we don't need no edgikation' .
Too true. One of the most important parts of education is learning that you don't know about a lot of things. Once you know about those things you can learn from them. Until then you may as well be blind.
