  • Hard News: About Occupy Wall Street,

Meanwhile, I’d be rather more impressed by Bill Gates if his support for so called ‘Robin Hood’ taxes was backed by an equally public calling out of tax avoiding multinational corporations like the one whose board he chairs:

Sure, but that discredits Gates, not the FTT, right?

  • Hard News: The Politics of Absence,

"A marathon, not a sprint" - Prostetnic Vogon Joyce's own words.

Sure, now it's a marathon. That ship grounded five days before the leakage got above 20 tonnes. Now, it's hundreds of tonnes. At least three of those five days had fine, calm weather. What happened?

Seaking of absence, can I just ask - somewhat off-topic -

How the FUCK did we get to this???

  • Hard News: Dropping the Bomber, in reply to Lilith __,

Actually, his blog post that Sue linked to is worth reading.

True. I missed it because I incorrectly assumed it was the previous post, which I'd already read.

Anyhow, good to see. Here's my advice, FWIW:

    1. Stop shouting
    2. Ditch the ghastly fake laughter
    3. Take more care over spelling - especially people's names
    4. Take more care over fact-checking
    5. Don't defame anyone. ;)

Yeah, I'm pissed off at the guy for often making a mockery of left-wing positions. Very pleased to read the bit you quoted, and I wish him success.

  • Hard News: Dropping the Bomber,

What, so Key *has* appeared on Morning Report? when?

Don't you get it, Sacha? Both Clark and Key have declined to appear on Morning Report on more-than-zero occasions.

  • Hard News: Dropping the Bomber,

Good for preaching to the choir...but not persuasive to anyone else.

The more I think about it, I lean towards "Good Fucking Riddance".

His horrible approach has probably sent far more "swingers" right than left.

  • Hard News: Dropping the Bomber,

for reasons known only to himself, John Howson took the crazily unusual step of notifying the staff of that in a mass email.

Do we have a copy of that? Or is that this (from 3news.co.nz):

“Mr Bradbury’s invitation to take part in The Panel discussion segment was withdrawn because his personal comments about the Prime Minister were deemed to be in breach of Radio New Zealand’s editorial requirements for fairness and balance. One of his comments was regarded as being potentially defamatory.

"Mr Bradbury’s comments were inconsistent with information he had provided to programme producers before going on air.

"Mr Bradbury later apologised to the programme’s executive producer. It was made clear to him that while his invitation to appear as an occasional guest on The Panel was being withdrawn, it was not a ‘lifelong ban’ and it did not apply to other Radio New Zealand programmes."

One more thing; I don't quite get S&P's position. Did they not effectively say with their "back three years" comment:

    1. We don't prefer National, because
    2. We don't take sides.
    3. And anyway, we prefer Labour.

    ?

  • Hard News: Dropping the Bomber,

    Craig,
    Here it is verbatim:

Yelling, "It's your fault, it's your fault" while making a throat slashing gesture at Phil Goff (as a man with mental health issues dangled from Parliaments balcony) is the sort of ravings one expects from a meth addict on a bender, not the political leader of a country.

The statement rests on what "one expects". It's clearly framed as opinion, therefore impossible to disprove.

As I said, I'm pretty sure that any talk of defamation would be about this bit:

What does a $43 million loan to Mediaworks buy you on Radio Live? Apparently, an hour of John Key avoiding answering any questions on politics.

but even that would be defensible, I'd say - though that one would require a pinhead dance.
