BTW, Nightline "update" mentioned Key being "busted for lying in Parliament".
Naturally, no coverage elsewhere, so what was that about?

There's nothing close to defamatory about the "meth addict" comment - Bradbury merely compared Key to one, not implied that he was one.
This one might be a little less clear cut:

Quite strange that RNZ appear not to have made an official statement on this issue, other than Cavanagh's (prepared) answers to Mediawatch's enquiries. Of his comments, this one seems not to have been reported widely:
"RNZ hadn't been advised that he'd be airing such strong personal criticism of the prime minister's character"

One theory I heard, from a Ponsonby retailer friend, rings true.
Most game attendees are locals, and when they are spending many hundreds - if not thousands - of $ on tickets (something like $20m total per Eden Park game), obviously spending on other things is going to suffer. Unsurprisingly, the first item to be cut back? Restaurant spending.

The idea of a "hospitality bonanza" wasn't so much "anticipated" as "heavily promoted". Frankly, many of us predicted this outcome and were shouted down as "being negative" etc.

Interesting to hear on Mediawatch this morning (from 26 min.) that "Bomber" Bradbury has been fired from Afternoons with Jim Mora for "an unacceptable breach of RNZ's editorial policies", specifically that "RNZ hadn't been advised that he'd be airing such strong personal criticism of the prime minister's character".
Now, I find Bradbury as annoying as anyone else does, but I heard the piece in question - which, incidentally, no longer appears as a podcast - and, whilst rather forthright, it seemed like fair opinion to me.
