I'd say it would be more like Argentina beating the ABs at a Rugby World Cup. Very unlikely but you could kind of see how it could happen if all the stars and planets aligned just right (or wrong depending on your allegiances).
I think Italy will probably get about half a dozen good goalscoring chances and we might get one, two max. We need to take our chance(s) and hope that Italy hit the post, crossbar, shoot straight at the keeper and butcher a couple of sitters. Playing against ten men would also help.
I'm picking 2-0 or 3-0 to Italy depending on if they have their shooting boots on.

"follow" vangam.
I'm not supporting Australia anymore than the next Kiwi.
I lived in South Korea for 4 years and am married to one of em' and have been following Korean football closely for nine years, domestically and internationally.
The interest in the N Korean team is a curiosity thing, as is the English following as in a follow the train to see the inevitable wreck.

Can I just say I clean forgot about this game on the night? I know the other football was on, and there is the running storyline of my brain rot. Nonetheless, I used to look forward to the first All Blacks test of the season more. I wonder if others feel the same way.
To be honest I am pretty tuned into what is on and when in all things sporty but I can see how it slipped some people by.
Two main reasons, first is the WC buildup which since we are playing in it has been several times larger than usual, the second reason has been around for a few years now and its that these teams waltz into the country at the last minute and run out on the paddock with no tour games in the buildup. If Ireland had played Taranaki, Wellington, NZ Maori and Tasman before the first test we'd sure know about it.
Oh for the good old days ....

Having had a pre match pep talk from Michael Jones in my younger rugby playing days he repeated several times....
"Just go out there and smash them".
The words still echo in my head because I was transfixed by everything he said and did.
Of course he wasn't talking about anything illegal, just trying to smash them as hard as we could in all the physical stuff like tackling and taking the ball up.
Hard but fair, that's how the game should be played and it's hard to think of Jones ever crossing the line, but he certainly didn't have a shoulder that you'd want to run into. :)

You b@#%%&! I'll have to at least try and watch it now!

So Wayne Barnes was paid by somebody in 2007?
Well that explains it :)
The feet first lunges didn't happen, but I'll grant that v Italy they were roughing the Italians up a fair bit, I've seen all those propaganda highlight clips of the games :)
Any mistakes that went the home teams way are no different from the home team calls that you get any weekend anywhere though. Manchester United have been famous in the last few seasons for getting virtually no penalties awarded against them but the c word never gets mentioned.
but anyway, that's enough blabbing on by me. It was 8 years ago and I loved the whole experience of being there amongst it all.
This time I've got too many teams to follow, New Zealand, South Korea, North Korea, Australia, England until they lose on penalties.
The question I am asking myself now is would it be very stupid to stay up to watch Algeria v Slovenia when I have to teach tomorrow morning?

In the meantime Korea look good in dispatching Greece in 2010 :)
I thought they looked a bit shaky at the back though and against a more lethal side they might need a bit of luck. They can get round the park, control the ball, win the 50/50s and create chances though so Argentina and Nigeria won't be excited about playing them.
The S Korea v Nigeria game may well decide second spot, though the Argies under Maradonna... well anything can and probably will happen.

have a look at the replay. The ball was virtually on the byline with the player blocking the linesman from seeing it. I have friends (white ones) who are adament the ball curved out before coming back in.
The worst call that I saw was the offside against the Italian player which would have almost certainly led to the winning goal. But heck, he was dead level and those decisions are messed up all the time given how hard it is to be spot on.

The flag went up because the ball was deemed to have drifted out over the byline in midair. I disagree and think it was in play (unlike plenty of my European football mates in Korea) and the flag should have stayed down but I can see why his flag went up.
Lee Woon Jae stopped playing though and didn't try to save the header which was certainly saveable.
The corruption stuff is just insulting though. It's easy to throw around when there's no proof either way.
Hiddink was responding to the general whingeing I think.

'You can see the ball never went out on TV,' complained Carles Puyol afterwards. 'I don't want to think that the referee went out to rob either team but the pictures speak for themselves. It's clear the referee was not in our favour.'
Hiddink's riposte was bullish. For a start he noted that his team had stopped defending from the moment they saw a raised flag - indeed the keeper made no attempt to save Morientes's header. 'The losing team must look in the mirror,' he said. 'If an experienced team doesn't take advantage of the mis takes we made they should not look at external circumstances.'
He's exactly right but it was totally overlooked by many who should have known better.
If France go far in this tournament I wonder if it will get the same reaction. From irish fans maybe :)
