Still good radio, and great to have JC back on air. But I didn't get much from the pics - in fact I felt they detracted at times. Watching good professional journalists look awkward to be on camera was distracting.
Technically, livestreaming from multiple cameras and multiple sources is 'cheap and easy' now. Adding value is another thing entirely.
I'm curious whether more shows will go out in this format/style. On one level, having invested in the capacity, it makes sense. 9-noon and the weekend morning interview programmes are studio talk-fests.
But remembering watching eg Kim Hill interviewing, I don't know if that's a good idea either. KH is amazing to watch - her face races with ideas and emotions, her body-language fast and twitchy. But it also distracts from the joy of the talk - which is surely the real treasure.
One of the biggest things that keeps radio alive is the ability to enjoy it while doing something else. RNZ needs to hang onto that hard. -
Hard News: A cog in the Mediaworks machine, in reply to
presented by Mihi Forbes. I guess TV3’s sterling record in the current affairs arena must have impressed somebody
Mihi Forbes record makes all the difference, eh? Cos IMO she has more current affairs mana in her little toe than TVNZ have across their channels.

How about…
Reckon I'd watch both of those. In terms of entertainment - irony, tragedy, heart-ache, schadenfreude, unintended consequences, disastrous decisions, ridiculous antics, bare-faced lying, cheap tricks - MediaWorks 2015 has it all.

If anyone is interested- reminder there's a 'farewell to all that' 10am on Dec 10.
(Meself - haunted those corridors and sunny rooms for years, sometimes lonely, sometimes with mates. A small gang of far-more-sensible-now friends woke me up on my 20th birthday with a side of roast mutton and a flagon of vodka. By lunchtime we were dancing on the tables in the cafe. It's the only time in my life, I think, I've ever had any desire to dance on a table.) -

Hear, hear. I don’t think the PS should be paid peanuts, but let’s not pretend their “business” entails the same financial risks as private enterprise.
Indeed. And most if not all businesses would be run at least as well by people earning less. It's just a racket/club who vote themselves cash.

Not sure where to put this ... this post from TPM's Josh Marshall explaining the media environment, the dynamics of online advertising, and TPM's approach to future revenue (a tailored mix of advertising and subscription) is well worth a read if you're interested in this space.

he does make the point that if you hand weapons to folks there is a good chance they’ll do something bad with them.
Putin is bombing Kurds and other rebels as well as ISIS. Which is completely wrong.
But this from TPM makes a good point: it's nuts for 'most of the world' to be actively against both sides in a civil war. -
I'm hanging out to celebrate the Drug Peace :)

right at the back with my people: the middle-aged media white guys. (Christie, Reid, Greive, Phin and James
Mr Reid gave Taika quite a swerve on facebook. So without seeing much more than a bit of the Cringeworthy crew giggling (whatever happened to 'The Tickle King' eh?) I got the impression the music was good, the rest not so good.

Graeme – what’s the law regarding advertising? Once a fern is up against the current flag, might we see a torrent of emotional tv spots and fullpage spreads probably featuring all blacks and airforce heros urging us to get frondly with a brave step into a new world?
