I've always operated on a policy, when retelling my life history, to exaggerate slightly (or a lot).

We all mythologise our past, right? With me it's more a matter of not mentioning the down side, so that I look appropriately heartless and shallow.

  • Hard News: A Full Sense of Nationhood,

Not that I want to stop this thread from crawling into a corner to quietly bleed to death, but

where we some time fulfill the roles of 'pron gal' and 'Italian gastronomy guy'.

I totally reckon Giovanni and I should get costumes.

But now I'm wondering what did the trophy look like?

Sorry to disappoint, it was a pair of stick-on Spock ears.

Interestingly, the word "slut" appears at PAS all of 45 times (now 46). I have no idea how many of those occurences are the inspiration or efforts of Emma. :)

I've been trying to work out how to feel about that. I've also been trying unsuccessfully to find the fabulous discussion my friend Sinead and I had about the word 'slut'. In that slut-shaming is something absolutely guaranteed to make me rabidly angry, but I will happily refer to both myself and her as looking slutty or behaving sluttily. It's 'nigger' territory, basically.

And people sometimes ask.... "Why does everyone hate Martin Crowe?"

    LOL No they don't.

See? It's not easy being green. Apparently.

For a start, you wake up in the morning and the only remaining body paint is on your eyelids.

I'll bet someone thought you were 'Mrs. Hulk'.

It was a party thrown by the UC Science-fiction club. The allusion was well-recognised. Also I won the previously non-existent 'sluttiest costume' prize.

Ooh, now that'd keep Haddin back from the stumps a bit.

Speed up their over rate too, I reckon.

  • Hard News: A Full Sense of Nationhood,

Hmmm private jokes. The ultimate in communicative clarity.

No, that's not a private joke. (I feel a clanging sense of doom even as I type this.) Gio and I have had very little offsite communication - some, but not much, and certainly none that affects this joke. Which I actually thought was pretty, if not painfully obvious, but I could well be wrong. That's what happens with written group communication - or multi-player Notepad, as someone called IRC.

Now, I feel comfortable enough with my knowledge of Giovanni, gleaned through this forum, to make this joke and feel that he'll understand how I meant it, and I can predict how he'll take it. Others will vary in their ability to interpret it depending on how long they've been around, how much of Gio's and my stuff they've read, and if they understand our feelings about porn and Italian food.

It was also an attempt to lighten the tone in the forum, because the more uptight people are, the more likely they are to interpret, say, a completely innocent joke as a personal attack, or miss sarcasm.
