Let alone coming to Dunedin. I don't expect the big names to come here, but it'd be nice if some of the smaller / cult o/seas acts did.
Dean Wareham (Galaxie 500, Luna, etc) has a whole six days between Wellington and Auckland gigs, but there's no South Island show ? Very, very poor organisation. He'd easily get as many people in Dunedin as he would in either Auckland or Wellington. -

That advert was the most spectacularly bad image to be linked to the All Blacks since Graeme Thorne's perm. Good riddance to it.

I beat Vodafone and 2degrees are licking their lips over Telecom's snafu. I reckon one, if not both, will very quickly have ads on TV that really TTP out of the ads. While they're not official sponsors of the ABs, there'll probably be a rugby angle all the same, too.

It is a mediocre advert, simple as that. It is embarassing and inept. It is utterly devoid of any humour, regardless of what Telecom may claim. It will serve only to make Telecom look like klutzs as much as they did in their network problems last year.
Also, both Close Up and Campbell Live had the same Telecom guy on at the same time, but both claimed to be "live". Which of them was lying ?

It's still cold as a bastard here in Dunedin. There is still thick snow everywhere, but this morning it started raining heavily, too. The snow is melting slightly, but also getting icey.
While the main roads are open there's not a lot of traffic. I had to make an emergency dash to the supermarket around the corner and was pleasantly surprised to see there was some bread and milk there. (I thought either I'd been beaten by others stocking up or the trucks not getting through; the Kilmog is closed according to the radio).It's amusing seeing Aucklanders getting excited over a smattering, if that, of snow. Yesterday I had an e-mail from a friend gushing about how snow had fallen in Manuwera which, granted, must've been a somewhat novel and surreal occurence there.

Not strictly on topic, but I see that the Nats have chosen the Feelers' 'Stand Up And Be Counted' as their election campaign theme song.
Which is no big surprise given they're both bland, unimaginative, yet inexplicably popular. -
I thought Ben Franks had a weak game, he may be good at S15 level, but strikes me as a journey-man at test level. He also gave away at least two unnecessary penalties for obstruction.
If McCaw is ever injured Andrew Hore should be captain, he was outstanding last night.

Not strictly on topic I realise, but still food / drink related: the pathetic corporate bullying of small businesses by DB and Fonterra. Both have trademarked generic description terms and told small businesses to back off or they'll face costly legal action.
DB have trade-marked "Radler" and sued small Dunedin brewery Green Man for making a Radler beer. (Radler being a variety like lager, stout, etc). Just yesterday, Fonterra waved the big legal stick at a small Hawkes Bay (I think) cheesemaker over their use of the word "vintage".
In both cases it's the same as, say, McDonald's or Burger King trade-marking the word "cheese-burger" and not allowing your local takeaway to sell "cheese-burgers".
It is blatant corporate bullying and makes the likes of DB and Fonterra look like thugs.
