Seems like a good-enough result for me. Necessary upgrade work gets done for any eventual permanent space, but Central Govt pays for their fancy tent.
The focus on this cruise ship terminal as a definite eventual outcome kinda disappoints though -
And an anthropomorphically unnerving picture from the air.
Are we really surprised that Volcano Whose Name Cannot Be Spoken turns out to be a portal to the deepest reaches of hell? If they'd just called it Mt Fluffy Bunnies we wouldn't be in this mess...

Ummmm, how are "tokens for x days off during the year" any different to annual leave? Did I miss something or are you just arguing for zero public holidays and 5 weeks legislated annual leave?
And while the surchage does frustrate me - the people that charge on Sunday are just charlatans - a 15% surcharge in the restaurant world is just the reality of that business. Labour is a huge component of their cost, wearing a 50% increase in it one day is absolutely the difference between profitability and loss and believing a restaurant can plan it's labour cost allocations across a year is either naive or super-ambitious.
If you're a restaurateer faced with staying closed (because otherwise you're throwing money away), or opening with a surcharge I can see why they make the choices they do. -
Yep. Since January.

That's very neat and given how much my 18m/o boy loves the laptop (he now associates it with photos of all his favourite people and Dorothy the Dinosaur via YouTube) he'd go nuts with that. His tendency to hurl things when he gets sick of them may put a damper on that.
And surely this guy saw the irony of loading that on to a Flash-based video sharing site such that he'll never be able to watch it on said device? Or does Vimeo have an HTML5 iPad too?

I'm sure this is a common enough refrain here that it almost needs it's own HTML tag, but good lord don't read the Kiwiblog comments on this topic if you don't want blood to boil.
I think your point around assessing exactly what the points of failure are here is a good one - although the "would it look different?" statement is a little to close to suggesting that should lean against any criticism. When it seems to me to be an argument for dramatically greater caution and raising the bar for engagement, not lowering it.

4pi GST? I thought they were the party of freedom - how dare the nanny state force liberal concepts of Euclidean Geometry on my personal consumption decisions.
And frankly I don't trust any number that can't be written as a fraction - you know what else can't be written as a fraction? Stalin -
"The scapegoat for the “proposals” that are leading to the upcoming budget is the low-level mum and dad property investor"
How many "mum and dad" (btw, who cares about whether they're a nuclear family?) property investors are out there that earn (through PAYE-taxed income) less than $48k? Hell, less than $70k? They'll be "compensated" for losing their taxpayer handout by lower income taxes.
