  • Hard News: Dial O for Obama,

Nicky Hager says, in his response to Matthew Hooton's attacks on the police: 'Hooton gets a lot of space to sound off about subjects like this...' I agree. I find most of his contributions to his Nine to Noon slot with Kathryn Ryan, frivolous or malicious - and almost all, empty. When he was partnered by Peter Harris my sympathies were with Harris, who seemed often driven to the point of explosion with Matthew's off the wall stupidity. Laila Harre seems to have had a calming influence on him - he doesn't sound quite so much like a seven year show off - but interestingly when he was paired with Chris Trotter the other day he also drove him to screaming point. Hooton certainly drives me to utter a few intemperate remarks on the mornings I listen to the right/left debate. Are there no decent right wing commentators who could replace him? Or is 'decent right wing commentator' an oxymoron?

  • Hard News: The joke that went too far,

I had a look at Whaleoil for the first time (I'm newish to this, you understand and still think I ought to be cleaning the kitchen floor instead - and that's probably true) - but heavens to betsy - as they say somewhere on the planet - who could be bothered reading Whaleoil's infantile drivel - not me - ever again - I'll just read your comments. They're much more entertaining.

  • Cracker: Heroes and Villains,

There may be another reason for this. If they found your daughters bag there would be no need for a payout.

How do you work that out Shep? The funeral was the day after she arrived. We bought the clothes - paid money for them. Finding the suitcase didn't help - the money was gone. And why should we be insured and not Air NZ?

  • Cracker: Heroes and Villains,

Air New Zealand lost my daughter's luggage many years ago. She was coming from Melbourne to Auck. for her grandfather's funeral and they sent her luggage to London (as you would). We bought new clothes, sent Air NZ copies of the receipts - they told us it was their policy only to pay out some tiny amount per day. We sent the receipts again, they lost them. We sent them again. They said they never received them. And on and on and on, with them consistently 'losing' or 'not receiving' our mail. We persevered - and they finally coughed up. I think we eventually threatened them with lawyers. It took several months, but they finally gave in. I'm sure you're right and they have a conscious policy to ignore complaints unless they really won't go away. That way they save themselves thousands.

The allegation you're referring to is baseless and malicious. If you bring any more Wishart slime here I will ban you permanently.

Sigh of relief. Thanks Russell. I just had a sick feeling in my stomach and couldn't think how to deal with it without bringing up my lunch.

I'm with RB, I'm sick of it all and really disappointed in the PM in not sacking WP when she had the chance. I simply cannot understand why she hangs on and refused to censure him.

    Ahem. Welcome to MMP.

  • Hard News: Loving your dog and owning…,

what do you say to people who would say that they love their Grandmother, but it's right you can't marry them). And one day, instead of saying sister, or son, or grandmother, as examples of places where love isn't enough, he said dog.

Maybe you point out the subtle differences between marrying your grandmother (or your dog, or your sister or brother) and marrying your lover.

  • Hard News: Fun while the banking system collapses,

What I actually said was: has anyone in Labour actually worked in the real world, or did they all just leave University and go straight into politics? and then I answered my own question with Of course not, some got into Teaching first. Or the Union Movement.

Thank you John - I have now read your message slowly and realise that what you really mean is the people who teach the country's children and organise the country's workers do not work in the real world - or were you writing against type here and failing to be ironic?

  • Hard News: Fun while the banking system collapses,

Seriously, has anyone in Labour actually worked in the real world, or did they all just leave University and go straight into politics? Of course not, some got into Teaching first. Or the Union Movement.

Seriously? Really? Are you serious that teaching and working in the union movement isn't 'real work' and doesn't prepare a person for working pollitics? Please explain. And what work would qualify as 'real work' that prepares a person for political life?
