du Fresne's attempt to frame every programming choice in terms of the alleged political orientation of individual guests -- rather than whether they've written a good book, done some interesting research or can tell a joke -- is strained to the point where it seems reasonable to ask if he has a chip on his shoulder.
A late response from me - but I've jut read Karl du Fresne's blog - good writing trying to stay afloat on the chip on his shoulder - which may be a little larger and less buoyant than a chip. What interests me is that the effect on the ensuing discussion is immediately polarising, something that doesn't seem to happen too often on this blog.

Well actually it does matter who wins the election if you agree that the “Nats” job is same as it ever was-redistributing wealth upstairs.
The indicators speak–minimum wage frozen 1991-4, $1 increase over 9 years under Nat led governments vs. 70% increase since 1999 under Labour led governments. Repeat for other indicators.
Taser proof vests and coreflute sign stock sales will go through the roof if slippery John wins. They will not be Labour Lite.

Actually, it occurred to me that it doesn't matter that much who wins here, in that we'll still have a modern economy run along conventional lines by people who aren't total nutjobs.

Rik: The privileges committee is considering what the NZ First leader knew about the Mr Glenn's 2005 donation of $100,000.
That's the matter under consideration - not whether there was a donation.

So if she knew about it and watched Winston publicly declaring that it did not exist (ie. she knew he was lying) and then does nothing about it - what does that say about her ethics?
Perhaps I've got it wrong Rik, but I thought the issue wasn't that Peters denied there had been a donation, but rather that he claimed to have no knowledge of a donation.

She knew about the donation, but she didn't necessarily know whether Winston Peters knew it about it did she?

Indeed, and if McCain really wanted (to be crude about it) a twat to trump the nigger on the other side, Palin was the best he could do? Apart from being insufficiently ideologically rigid on on abortion (and even there more in form than substance), Senator Kay Bailey Hutchinston -- who was reported on the longlist for a while -- ticks all the conservative boxes. I don't expect her politics to be applauded around these parts, but she's at least got some form.
Craig, this sort of over-excited 10-year old use of metaphor is probably why I've decided to give all blogs headed up with your name a miss.
