  • Hard News: The Future of the Future,

The newly recorded Coro theme tune I find more melodious and interesting in a musical appreciation sense...

However, because it is indelibly linked, psychologically, to a TV show that holds no interest for me... I'm never going to sit down and listen to it in that way...

Also, the big-band brass version of the CHiPs theme tune was much better than the later synthesizer pretend-brass followup.

  • Hard News: The Future of the Future,

Yeah ... and they had a Ches & Dale ad on it. Claiming to be from 1969. But in colour. Oh well.

Not only did they lie or get it wrong... they supplied the info to prove so earlier in the program when they told us NZ got colour in 1973.

  • Hard News: Still not all that Super?,

Thanks for the Act manifesto Russell...

    Did you notice the contradictions?

    - Local government will be required to shed its commercial activity,

    - Roads and piped water will be supplied on a fully commercial basis.

    - Local government should be confined to the core activities that produce general public benefits, such as regulation, flood control and roads.

So, local government should be confined to core stuff including roads, roads should be supplied on a fully commercial basis, and then it should get rid of all its commercial operations (like roads)?

Local councils should only do the stuff they should get rid of?

    Did I get that right?

  • Southerly: The Burglar Files,

I ask, in the interest of historical accuracy, if there was actually a light at the intersection of Parrs Cross and West Coast Roads in 1986? Because now it's a rather fetching roundabout.

Back in '81 or so, my parents semi-frequently bought fruit-n-veg at Nola's on the corner (still there). I'm reasonably sure it was a round-about even back then.... and if it wasnt, it was a plain T intersection... definitely never been any lights there.

  • Up Front: The Up Front Guide: Dressing…,

    No...

Men are always up for it, and women never are, except for when they dress to indicate so... hence why you get hit on when you dress like that.

The up-for-it guys are remaining gentlemanly until you give the green light... or something. :)

I thought that men didnt need to dress special to indicate we were totally up for it... its just a given.

All men are totally up for it all the time... no?

  • Pass the crisps: UK Election watch,

Thanks Russell for the info on how to watch UK TV on my computer.... I knew there'd be a way to get around their trying to limit it to UK viewers only I just hadnt got around to figuring out how...

Interesting to note from watching BBC1.... their election night coverage is EXACTLY the same, in 2010 as depicted by parodies by the Goodies in the 70's and The Young Ones in the '80's....

picture: a small town-hall stage, four or five hopefuls standing in line with different coloured rosettes and some boring dignitary announcing the vote count in front of them .... swap to next.... followed by....

Do they have a camera in all 600+ electorates to catch the talley? And they've been doing it the same for at least 30+ years? wow!

  • Pass the crisps: UK Election watch,

Anyone who uses the phrase "Fanny getting arse-banged by a Doberman-dot-com" has to be winding you up

A quick google of "fanny getting arse banged by doberman" brings up this very thread as the second to top link.... and if you spell it "ass" this is also second... but the top result is different...

I'm not sure if this is a good thing?

I deem it prudent not to check out the other links... especially not at work (guessing only?)

  • Hunting Fails,

My ancestor, Richard Davis, a missionary farmer in the Bay of Islands, brought gorse to NZ in the 1820s.

I'm sorry, but that doesn't belong in this thread, afterall it's been enormously successful.
    :(

  • Hard News: Dude, what just happened?,

The police have made many accusations of what they've found SOG to be doing...

And while supplying cannabis seedlings is obviously illegal.... some of the other things I assumed were ok. (ie. they've been accused of not something not illegal?)

Can any of our legalistic types explain where the border lies?

If a car salesman sells a car to someone who then uses it in a bank robbery... no one arrests the car salesman do they?

It cant possibly be illegal to sell gardening equipment if you are ignorant of the use it will be put to.

Is the "crime" in knowing to what use it will be put? What if you don't "know" but have suspicions?

What about giving advice? I couldnt tell you much about how to grow anything, but I can tell you how to exceed the speed limit, or break a window to unlock a door from inside... is simply the sharing of knowledge illegal if the knowledge pertains to an illegal act?

I've seen so many bongs and p-pipes for sale in the open that I assumed that was legal too?

What are "head shops" legally allowed to do, and where is the line?

Also... this new imposition that they have to record names/photo Id if they want to re-open the shops... can the police/courts actually do that? It seems like making up new law on the spot? Secondhand dealers and pawn brokers have to record who they buy stuff from, and pharmacists have to record who they sell certain medicines to... but these requirements have been specified in laws passed by parliament.

    Confused...
