I must’ve missed that post completely, I think – tied up with EQC repair preparations – still always worth reminding folk and this thread was a logical place for others to find the link, even though I’m a big believer in random factors…
I can't recall exactly how I noticed Raz's uploads in the first place, but that was just by chance. When I get the speech notes tidied up for web publication with the gallery, you'll see it was a very happy accident – Olly very much gets his place in the story.

Chchch music gems unearthed
The gems I blogged about last year, you mean? :-)
The nice thing was, those recordings gave me a context to fit Olly into the talk in question. I met Olly back in the day – I didn't know him well, but I recall him being a real character. I think, like Tony Peake, he's one of those outsiders who come in and have a vital influence on a scene.

I also think the powerplay rules have eliminated most of the tediousness than ODIs have been accused of in the past.
Yeah, they got very samey.
Some people seem to object very strongly to to the one-more-playe- in-the-circle thing, but it actually incentivises the taking of wickets as the best way to keep the runs down, which seems like a good thing.

Nobody reads my posts, do they? Typical.
Yeah, duh. I misread a tweet crediting it back to the discussion (ie: you) and and popped it into the comments while I was working on something else because it was so cool … then realised what the tweet meant …

This is great: TrendsMap's timeline visualisation of the #NZvSA hashtag last night. Check out India!

A gorgeous piece of writing by Andrew Fernando of Cricinfo about being at Eden park yesterday.

When Dan came out I said to spouse “he scores in an arc of about 20 degrees behind square …” and what a demented shot that was!
I've seen Vettori up close, and he's a tall, athletic man. His bowling action is, of course, graceful and balanced. But he bats and runs like a goony bird. It's brilliant.

Anyone got any suggestions about the telly?
If resetting and auto-tuning didn't work, it may be that your aerial is bung.

Which I think is a credit to the South African bowling and fielding attack. So many cracking shots were held to singles, every single one of which was never quite enough, drove the required run rate up a little more. But their mistakes were extremely costly.
Exactly. It was the excellence of their fielding (and Morkel's bowling!) that created the pressure that almost took away New Zealand's chances of what was beginning to look like a very reachable win. But that same pressure told on them in those handful of game-changing moments.
And we should not lose sight of the fact that the rain was (mixed metaphor alert) an incredible windfall for New Zealand. Things might have been very different had we been chasing 360 in 50 overs.
