  • Hard News: A revolting piece of shit,

I wrote a long post on this and the damned thing disappeared into the aether.
    So, I'll summarise.
Most men find young women attractive (Late teens/early twenties) we are built that way. Most men resist the urge to act on this attraction, this is called civilised behaviour and applies to most societies.
I once gave my Sister big emotional hug after not seeing here for years whilst I was in India, I heard later that there was a rumour that our relationship was incestuous based on this incident. A few years later I was giving my Daughter a bath with her Sister, not related to me, the girls were five and eight at the time. A friend of my partner came round to the house and told us both that this was totally unacceptable and treats me with disdain to this day. I have hardly hugged my daughter since, we are no longer that close, sad.
Oh yeah and that had nothing to do with porn.

Canterbury democracy being traded for dairy profits.

I saw the whole Canterbury mess as a conflict of interest from the beginning. I thought Government needed to step in and put a stop to the lack of balance at Environment Canterbury and make a stand for the peoples right to water in that area. I should have known that the Sheriff's men riding in on their trusty steeds were going to side with the cattle ranchers again.
It's like Bonanza all over again.

  • Up Front: Who's Dreaming Now?,

I think the most surreal WINZ story comes from my husband, who is a musician. He was on and off the UB for years but now makes a living from it.

SEE!!! That's the problem. Giv'em a taste of the goodlife on the dole an' see what ya get???...
They make a living out of it.

I was constantly being sent multiple copies of letters with contradictory messages, making it all seem very difficult as to what the 'right thing' to do was.

My reaction to that situation was to reply to all those letters, asking for confirmation and further details on the history of the correspondence and thanking them for their concern. I also found that writing inter-correspontental acknowledgements apologising for delays in acquiring information to be expedient in the case of ongoing negotiations. If you want to twist the administrative knife a little harder, just reply to a letter they haven't sent you stating that "Time is of the essence".

But then again I have a nagging doubt about those bosons, the qualities we expect of them seem a little too convenient.
I have a gut feeling that Burkhard Heim may yet be proven to be correct.
Now that would be very interesting.

I find the cake strange and charming.

    Ah, but is it Art?

I'll just get my Bosons and leave...

some of those on screen appeared to have got dressed in the dark.

You say this like it's abad thing. I would sugest that, maybe, some did get dressed in the dark, so what. Perhaps it was more important for them to be there " looking square" rather than miss the event.
I have often wondered why our politicians are required to wear a shirt and tie, the uniform of the Businessman, and that the "Business" of parliament must be carried out in a "Businesslike" manner when, in fact, the function of parliament is as an arbiter negotiator of public and foreign affairs, not a business, it is not there to make a profit.
I would rather our MPs looked as if they got dressed in the dark while they engineered our future and made decisions based upon peer reviewed practices and theories rather than the besuited drones of the business elite vying to grab as much from the public purse as they can.
Hmmm, second thoughts, I just had a vision of Gerry Brownlee in a thong...

  • Field Theory: A post about art (sort of),

That's not dinner. That's some seaweed wrapped around rice and fish.

Unless it were Whales wrapped in red polyethylene placed on stainless steel poles exactly 33.33 metres apart across a Gobi dessert placed upon a Bubble wrapped Table Mountain, I could not conceive of calling it Dinner, I would call that lunch.

  • Hard News: A revolting piece of shit,

The real question here is... censorship. Why did NZoA fund this tune if the lyrics were so jarring ? what does it say about artistic freedom and criteria for taxpayer funding ? Is it OK to walk/talk the darkside or does it all have to be flowers and honeybees blah blah blah and who earned the right to judge on our behalf ?

I think you have made a point, in your usual inimitable fashion. I have to differ on the censorship angle mainly because this is one of those times when any censorship would by retroactive with the censor bowing to public opinion but NZoA may be harbouring a few red faces right now. Does it all have to be flowers and honeybees? Well look what we have for the Rugby World Cup, a bland innocuous song written on the other side of the world and performed by the local equivalent of Cold Play. Had Dirty Sesh substituted the violence as Dark/Evil for imagery of sporting prowess, faces gouged and thrust into the mud, the bone jarring tackles, neck wrenching scrum manoeuvres and general disregard for injury of your opponent we may have had a winner.

but if any older men want to take me aside for some respect lessons them step up or step off and your credentials better be impeccable !

Thanks for the offer but respect comes from understanding and the kind of respect we have here is respect for each other, not for the fist.
