Hard News: Show some decency, in reply to
I wouldn’t call that hyper-intelligence.
Nor would I call that stupidity. What you described is a kind of intelligence. I certainly wouldn't turn to the prime minister for a discussion on ethics or history, but he has a kind of smarts and he's good at what he does. Gotta be wary of that.

Sorry to hear about Stella.
As for the words, I momentarily confused two with unfortunately similar sounds.

I just saw the way Hanover marketed themselves and even at the time felt sick. To see savings wiped out twice in my lifetime by high flying shells of companies is something to be concerned about. Savings are the backbone of the individuals quality of life in a capitalist market.
Tangentially related at best: There are bloody good reasons why China's real estate market makes Auckland look affordable by comparison, and why so many wealthy Chinese are so keen to buy up property in NZ, the USA and elsewhere. The banks and what happens to the savings you have in them are some of the bigger reasons for that. Savings may be the backbone, but you want that backbone to be reasonably solid.

You're right, I suspect. It was a very similar-sounding word of Shakespearean origin that caused the earlier bother, wasn't it? Sorry.

the obvious shyster
Can we avoid that word, please? It's caused enough trouble already this election. First time round I found it very hard to believe that anybody would not have known it's an anti-semitic slur, it caused enough fuss back then I don't see how anybody has any excuse to be using it now.

Speaker: On the upland road, in reply to
saying that it’d just be used by people to sabotage deparments’ funding by lodging gratuitous complaints.
Nice to see how much faith they have in humanity. To me that says more about the quality of this government than it does about the people of NZ.

People in leadership positions are expected to be at least as moral as the rest of us, and we are all expected to obey the law and for good reason.
If I may, I would like to add benevolence to the mix. Y'know, rulers making sure the ruled actually have all they need. And Mencius, I paraphrase: "Why are you talking about profit? Great way to create a failed state as everybody goes grabbing all they can for themselves. Benevolence and righteousness - be a good person and take care of the people, that's how you run a country. Oh, and don't go blaming the weather, take responsibility for your actions as ruler." If they could figure all that out in Warring States China, then....
