  • Hard News: Incomplete, inaccurate and misleading, in reply to Shaun Lott,

    Summary: “Whaleoil was just bullshitting”?

Basically, yeah: "“[Collins’] understanding was that Mr Slater had manufactured a story and he wanted to believe it.”

It also confirms that Carrick Graham "engaged" Slater and Odgers as a paid service to Hotchin, and that that the police seem to have decided almost immediately that they wouldn't bother investigating David Parker's criminal complaint.

Lovely post. Eclipsed by Slatergate today, doubtless, but lovely nonetheless!

Thanks Rob. I knew it wasn't going to get 100 comments, but it felt like it needed to be written.

What “interfaith dialogue” has that waste of oxygen ever engaged in beyond his fact-free pandering to homophobic evangelicals in South Auckland?

    A fair question.

Maybe Toi Iti could help with information about Mahuta’s standing.

You’re asking a son of Tuhoe for comment on Tainui? ;-)

I only know that the name Mahuta carries weight.

Yep – that’s why her Dad called himself that :-)

This remarkably frank Herald obit captures both sides of Sir Robert. I think the difficult last years have been overtaken by the achievements in memories now.

If caucus rankings were solely based on parliamentary achievements, then Sue Bradford would be leader of the Greens.

Good point. In 18 years, Mahuta has had no obvious role in policy development, and has, one bill to her name, which failed at first reading. She hasn't been an attention-grabber, ever. I can't recall anything she said or did as Minister of Local Government, 2005-2008. But I was pleasantly surprised at her performance in the leadership campaign.

I’ve met Mahuta, and she seems intelligent and articulate, both good qualities have on the front bench. There is also the symbolic acknowledgement that Maori are (still) staunch supporters of Labour.

She's also an important link to the Kingitanga. I think that's probably very significant.

Who has responsibility for Broadcasting /Communications? It seems to rate so lowly these days,

    Curran?

Yes. And I agree with Geoff. It's a shame that such a portfolio is not highly-ranked by Labour.

She didn’t get awards for selling big numbers – you’ll note those went to others like Sol3 Mio.

Biggest-selling NZ album of the past two years by freakin' miles.

Judges clearly disagreed with you on creative/technical merit of this particular album.

I was one of the many voters and it wasn't really possible to go past Pure Heroine -- it's just too important a record. Even the Taite Prize judges agreed!

Repent Russell, they’re the work of bloody Satan. I will say though on the list of winners the only one that sucked was the People’s Choice which kinda fucks my populist thesis.

    That's always the ropey one.

One other thing: I'm not sure what Louisa Wall has done wrong. She seemed to deserve a ranking.
