Too kind. I think that taking pictures of the sky was a key in the logic of the current iPhone camera.

It does seem to kick Android's arse on that. Droids seem to maximize terrestrial colors. I've got many shots with vivid lifejackets against dull grey sea and bright grey sky.

Meanwhile, in Oz. A friend of mine on Bribie Island's kids look out toward an inferno. He's caught by news presenters in his car saying "The fact I've packed up my kid's One Direction stuff means it must be serious".

This cave is lined with the pink stuff, and at lower tides, it coughs and splutters and booms. It's a really eccentric sound very much like an animal rather than just a function of the way the air is compressed by the wave motion and forces itself out at the top like a whale spouting. Tricky one to photograph, because it's at its most exciting in big swells, which is not the time I like to be standing off a rocky coast in a small dingy with my back to the sea. The reflecting waves can create steep faces on the incoming ones. I don't fear for my own life, it's only 500m to the beach, but the boat would be wrecked if it capsized, as would the camera.

Next time I'm there, I'll have a crack. A calm water close up of the throat is doable.

But nothing can really top the scar made by this, in which the owners were so determined to get their sea access that they caused the entire face to slip away, and have spent the last 5 years building retaining walls to keep their house out of the ocean.

Nearby, to further emphasize the precarious hold of humanity on earth, this monstrosity seems almost ill-fated to me, considering I've observed all of the catastrophes below it over a 30 year period, the tree was once upright, the enormous boulder on the beach was what made that cave in the face, the cracks have all widened.

But it won't be long before something like the "Stairway to Heaven" (which at the bottom end is simply a rocky crag) is added, I expect. I think that ridge was pines before. Now it's riparian rights gone mad - the house is only about 100m along the road from the council access to the actual beach, and in the other direction to Fisherman's Point.

    Beautiful shots, ChrisW.

I did my best to avoid leaving a footprint on this beach, not that it would matter, it's wiped clean every 12 hours.

I've always loved the primordial aspect of this spot. It has difficult access on both sides, and sheer and eroding cliffs, so no one has plonked a bach on it. The rocky waterline discourages boats.

The sea washes right up to the cliff face, the bush above cascades down, birds flutter and nest overhead. Nature sitting exposed on top of raw geology.

Land battered by sea, and pink algae forming in a hole resembling a throat.

  • Southerly: E=mc^2... Your Views, in reply to Rich of Observationz,

Beat me to it. You missed:
-Friction is always the reason that physics equipment does not work. It is never that the teacher didn't just throw the broken stuff away, or fix it.
-Write your hypothesis in pencil, if you are fool enough to make it before the experiment.

    ETA:
"Human Error" is an importantly cowardly way of not blaming anyone in particular for it all not working.
In chemistry, you must always spill some of it on the documentation.

I've got a disposable waterproof I've never used. It's like an old wine that the opportune moment is never quite big enough for. I bet when I crack the camera open, it will be corked.
