The only investigation? We don't need to know the reasons why a person went off the rails and ended up holed up in a house with guns and explosives surrounded by police, then?
That would be nice to know, but it's not going to do much to stop it happening again. Improving response time and effectiveness will save lives. And it will save the lives of those who are not terrorists.

And furthermore, what if Self-Styled Rambo was/is holding hostages? Shoot first, think later à la Demolition Man just doesn't cut it.
Dude, deal with the situation. It's one guy in a house with no hostages and a cop lying in the driveway.
If this situation can lead to days of standoff what's going to happen when someone plans something?
How many people are we going to leave lying in the street out of a reluctance to harm the criminal spreading the terror?

They were. not. certain. about his condition. Regardless of his condition it is unbelievable that they would leave him lying in the driveway all this time. I do not question the courage of the men on the scene. I question the rules and procedures in place that put the life of the criminal above the retrieval of a fallen officer. I question the sanity of a heightening of bureaucracy in response to what should be encouraging better weapons and tactics training.
The guy should have been incapacitated and the officer attended to quickly.
Now it's too late.
And you guys want to praise the system that lets this happen. :|

BTW at the end of this there just has to be an investigation as to how someone without a firearms license end up with so much weaponry
Yeah, and we need to licence crowbars as well and then launch investigations everytime someone without a license uses one to break into a house. :|
The only investigation that needs to be done is into the hearts of men who would decide to leave a shot man lying in the driveway for a day.
Shoot the criminal in the house, retrieve your fallen and let's get on with life, already!

They weren't even sure he was dead!
"The fact we have got an officer we cannot get out from the situation, we cannot confirm finally that the man is dead is deeply distressing.
"He is in a position where we can say with reasonable certainty that he must be dead, but no one has been able to get there close to him and check that."
Police Commissioner Howard Broad - NZHerald
Regardless of his condition you do not leave fallen comrades. You do all you can for them and hope for the best!
A single man holds a square kilometre of a city to ransom. Police leave a comrade lying in the middle of the driveway for, how long? Has he been retrieved? And for what?

Common sense is free and easily transmitted. No need for international flights.
I hear they might have tried gas. That's a start. But, let's be reasonable, it's one Rambo-wannabe in a house verses 100 people trained to deal with hostiles. If you can shoot 3 pirates on the high sea through a window then surely this cannot be too hard.
Have they retrieved the body from the driveway yet? Or are they just going to leave the guy there till Sunday?
-
Cheers, mate. Not you though. That wouldn't be proper. Unless you're a member of the armed offenders squad?
-
When is someone going to shoot the criminal so Napier and New Zealand can get back to life?
Sorry. Thread-jacking.

:rotfl:
"It's a lady with a moustache!"
And all of New Zealand is up in arms. Priceless. Between this and Jesse Ryder throwing his toys we'll have several weeks of contrary opinions on what people should or should not be able to say and do in given situations.
For me? This photo is funnier than the moustache man and not as funny as this one.

You guys have all over-reacted. The kid is fine. Mum has written a book. Gimme something to work with here or you're all a bunch of pansies :|
