  • Hard News: Just shoot me,

Kid dishonours parents and gets booted out of the house. Sounds fair to me. What's all the wailing about? Mum wrote a book?

  • Hard News: God's squads,

Oh. Wait. I missed where it says "and abortion" in policy number two. I was wrong. They aren't comprehensively against abortion ... :(

    Wait .. I already said that .. I was RIGHT! :)

    hmm .. :(

  • Hard News: God's squads,

Also from Mr. McCoskrie (for Sam F):

Family First's policies by themselves do look comprehensively against abortion:

Amend the law to protect the unborn children from conception (18,000 abortions per year represents the worst of child abuse)

Parental notification automatically of teenage pregnancy and abortion except in exceptional circumstances approved by the court
"An exceptional circumstance would be where the teenager was at risk of family violence from one of the parents if they were informed of her pregnancy". - Bob.

    Promote married couple adoption

It is only their misrepresentation of Family and Kiwi that leads me to believe otherwise.

  • Hard News: God's squads,

My summation from correspondence with one Bob McCoskrie:

Family First seems genuine in their desire to be seen as 100% pro-life. Yet Bob seemed totally unaware that both The Family Party and Kiwi Party are unashamedly pro-choice. He also quoted Taito’s NZ Pacific Party as having adopted their policy, but I was unable to quickly find anything on him (Is that just one guy?).

In conversation with a Family Party proponent over at a place called Semper Vita it is clear that the idea of being "comprehensively" pro-life in New Zealand is somewhat of a misnomer. It seems to actually mean "less pro-abortion than any given opposition".

So, forgive my scepticism of your analysis, Russell. I guess you will not be overly concerned that the pro-life movement is compromised though :)

  • Hard News: God's squads,

Family First are "comprehensively" against abortion?

"Parental notification automatically of teenage pregnancy and abortion except in exceptional circumstances approved by the court"

I wonder what an "exceptional circumstance" is and why anyone would call it an abortion (but I won't be wondering for long if they respond to my email:).

Got me confused a little bit because the Family Party is running on a pro-abortion policy as are the Kiwi Party. But these guys aren't even a political party.

    Politics is weird.

  • Hard News: Citizens,

In the end, I suspect the Police decided to charge the Otara liquor store owner on the basis of information that isn't (and shouldn't be) in the public domain, but will form the basis of a case that will be fully tested at trial -- where the defendant will receive a vigorous defence, and all the protections of due process. Which, ironically enough, Garth McVicar would he happy to flush even further down the proverbial crapper.

Possibly. Though I have no idea who Garth McVicar is. Did he used to open the batting for ND?

I did jump the gun a little bit. There have been a raft of stabbing stories and I think I confused a few of the details from one with this one.

I had read that the shopowner who has been charged... Not sure where the info came from so can't verify. Read it somewhere.

Well if that's the case then charges are warranted.

  • Hard News: Citizens,

Are we all familiar with the number of people currently in prison for murders committed after they served time for an earlier murder? I believe it's three.

That would make it at least three innocent people dead that shouldn't be...

Why are the police, no matter how "unlightly" they work, charging a person for protecting themselves, their family and their property? This case will destroy that family and undermines the economy.

I'm down the with Sullivan-Ranapia doctrine. Could these people get over their culture war and their novelty VP candidate and start acting like old-fashioned conservatives? Their chump champions have been wandering in the wilderness for eight years and the world is a bit scared.

    :)
