I just can’t take TVNZ seriously as a provider of any kind of public service. It’s a commercial broadcaster owned by the government.
Whatever value TVNZ has, it’s commercial, not civic.
So perhaps the debate on whether to keep it or not could be held solely on commercial terms, not civic.
The civic need for quality media is just as urgent - and unmet - regardless who owns TVNZ.

I don't think anyone was excusing anything. Jobs is an easy example of an immigrant story which went well, at least for the migrant, and for many others. If he's a *cough* shit-weasel or not is really beside the point. Or are you saying that Steve Jobs is a good reason for countries to block Syrian refugees?

I have nothing to add to that. Definitely. Weasels are an imported pest, devouring our natural resources and - by extension - our cultural and economic points of difference. And you couldn't really get more 2016 than that.
And, while shit-weasel is a gender neutral term, it is far from species neutral. We can join in the whole my-species-is-better-than-your-species rhetoric that has dominated global politics this year, yet from a position of infallible moral safety.
