Critical analysis as fictional narrative. I like it a lot. These clips sent me into a little search for Patricia Bartlett, who I see died late last year.
Censor ratings seem to work pretty well. Some kids really hate the scares and will be guided quite happily by the ratings.
But I also know some parents who generally disregard ratings, whose kids tend to be more happy watching freaky stuff than those with a more stringent approach.

Thanks Emma. That story and its conclusion mean a lot to me.

Polity: Behavioural economics and Hekia Parata, in reply to
All economics is behavioural
Yeah, sure. Qualitative brand consultants have been teaching you to drink your beer with the label facing outwards for decades. But that's the purview of psychologists in ad land. Economists have always been like "ugh, irrational purchase behaviour. We can tolerate it through this quantum ..."

And we’re just clever monkeys, tho, our best achievement is deluding ourselves it seems.
Yeah. Behavioural economics is good for explaining how most of the people most of the time don’t know shit about what they’re buying, why, or with what.

You seem to be labouring under the delusion that teachers make school budget decisions, rather than boards of trustees who are usually parents.
Maybe. But what evidence is there to suggest parent trustees will be any less incentivised to do the wrong thing than school management?

Hard News: Waterview: The giant up the road, in reply to
I’ve stealth cycled it a few times
What a good idea. I go to great lengths to figure out acceptable ways to avoid riding along GNR. And if the hideous traffic wasn't bad enough, some people are really bloody hostile!

No private landlord could consider requiring its tenants to submit to drug testing. In a sense, it creates two different kinds of citizen.
Bloody hell. In a very real sense.

Interesting. I'd thought giving no ranking would hurt a candidate more than a low ranking.
What happens if you don't number all candidates sequentially? E.g.
Candidate A: rank 1
Candidate B: no ranking
Candidate C: rank 3Invalid?
