This is a scam. We’re all being played. The way we get played any time pop music actually sticks for a bit.
I have decided that music critics obsessed with "realness" and "authenticity" are going to be first against the fucking wall when the revolution comes.

Hmph. You know, I'll fight to the death on this: Coronation Street is one of the best shows on television in scriptwriting and acting terms. It also has a really diverse cast. I'd consider any guy who says he follows it to be rad. (My husband watches it religiously. :) )

Jeez, Caleb, when you list it all like *that* it sounds kinda bad. Wasn't I also working with you at that point? :)
(I am none of the people he describes, I hasten to add. Heh.)

Yeah, it's not a great song by any means, but I'm not quite sure why we're picking on this track in particular. Pop music has always had its fair share of bombastic dross, surely? (Also, she WANTS us to laugh out loud at all the phallic stuff in the video, right? Because that's what I did.)
Here is my favourite version of "You're No Good". Palate cleanser.

Oh gosh. A must-own!
Do you have this? I am a little bit obsessed with it.

Don’t be a dick.
+1. Do believe me, Steve, when I say that the "ladies be crazy, amirite" schtick does not fly with me at any time of the day OR month.

rescue pop music
Call me contrarian, but I am always rather suspicious of these sorts of statements. You know how for ages the accepted narrative was "pop music in the early 60s was bland and naff and then the Beatles came!", completely ignoring how great the girl groups were? Yeah.

I had something of an epiphany a year or two ago when I realised that the function of HR was not to act in any way whatsoever in the interests of the employee, but rather to act as an enforcement arm for management to prevent uppity employees from any sort of boat-rocking.
Oh yes, I meant to say: preach, Rich. With a side of word.

The fundamental question isn’t “are you the perfect candidate?”, it’s “do you understand what needs to be done and can you get it done?”
The great dream job for me personally is the kind where someone tells me what to do and then leaves me the fuck alone to do it. (I currently *have* that job, and imagine that when it eventually ends I will have a rude new job re-awakening in which someone keeps calling me into an office in order to "touch base" and fill out lengthy forms about my "KPIs". Shudder.)

As an aside, it is interesting to observe the level of duplicity exhibited by some commenters on this subject. Clearly misrepresenting yourself to your prospective or current employer whether through a psychometric assessment, interview or otherwise is something that should be of concern.
All of this stuff is just hoop-jumping. You know it, I know it, we all know it. The point is not how honestly you represent yourself, but how well you tailor your own representation to fit whatever the HR department is looking for. What would be the point of me saying "I think this is all time-wasting bullshit" to someone who has bought into this enough to sit there and present it with a straight face, playing their own little part? I'd never get hired.
