Bart:
FFS having a really good nanny in government would suit me just fine.
Funny how free-market cheerleaders who point to Singapore as a model to follow, typically overlook one of Lee Kuan Yew's bigger gems:
If Singapore is a nanny state, then I am proud to have fostered one.

Didn't Peter Dunne campaign not too long ago on zero GST on council rates? Mind you, it depends on his target constituency.

Jesus. That whole thread went mildly insane from there, didn't it?
They had some legitimate raw meat about debt-fuelled growth from Bernard Hickey, and still everyone nutted off about their own thing. Abolish the Charities Commission, etc, etc. Gah.
Sounds like the usual suspects are sensing the beginning of the end of their little pseudo-empire.
And am I not the only one to draw comparisons with Family Fist and Orwellian Goodsex?

In a way, the MMP system seems to double as a de-facto upper house.
If the electoral system absolutely has to be changed, then make it anything but FPP. Personally I lean towards STV or a similarly preferential system.

There's a policy on "Affordable Housing", which asks if candidates will amend zoning to unlock more land for building to bring house prices down for first-home buyers. (In other words - suburbia continuing out into the wops forever.) All candidates showed as neutral on this particular 'family friendly' policy, except for Colin Craig who I believe is/was a property developer by trade. How odd.
We all know that "affordable housing" when said by the Suburbistani tribe is really a trojan horse for McMansions developers, for the simple fact that they'll have the most to profit from it. And how many of these McMansions actually have more than 1-2 kids?

I'm sure Ive heard several times, including from one direct source, that Rodney Hide has been speaking out against MMP also.
I thought turkeys didn't vote for their own Thanksgiving?
Regarding boundary changes, Tricky Dick was up in arms about old-money Khandallah being redrawn out of Wellington Central - which he held at the time - into Peter Dunne's electorate, and colourful Newtown being redrawn into his. Far from gerrymandering as he accused the Electoral Commission of, it was but a reflection of increased inner city living.
Ultimately, his remarks that Welly Central was the country's smartest electorate proved prophetic. ;D

Bloody aftershocks, woke me again & now I find out another hour of sleep was nicked by daylight savings.
And Telecom's Digital Time hasn't even updated for it yet either. It's still showing the non-DS time on my phone.

Bhatnagar's complaints paid off: the #johnbanksmayor account has been suspended.
Funny how the anti-PC brigade can't stand the tables being turned on them.

The whole point is, does ACT want to be a party of live-and-let-live libertarians, or a party of reactionary Archie Bunkers? There's only one pilot's seat in the cockpit.

ACT prostituted itself (arf) to the SST. This was a fake marriage, full of contradictions, and they should have been called on it long before McVicar's goon got drummed out of Parliament.
And ends up diagnosed with the STD known as hypocritosis.
Seriously though, I can see a wedge emerging between the prudes and the libertarians within the movement.
