Plenty of scope for the opposition, you'd think. Govt takes wrecking ball to community services.
Yet we get stupid whining about the introduction of new taxes and the Govt deficit. You'd think it was obvious that castigating the govt for doing things you'd like to do is dumber than dumb ... -
This is the sort of thing we're buying into ...

where’s Labour gone?
Bloody quiet :(
On past record, they too tend to roll over and bark whenever Washington glances our way.
Lots of people here fighting it - the indomitable Jane Kelsey, and Bryan Bruce is doing some good stuff. -

Now TVNZ is even running stories about inter-generational theft and how it is occurring.
Not sure if this is referenced, but Andrew Dean (Ruth, Roger and me) is a great spokesperson – articulate and really gets it. This is a nine minute clip, but well worth watching http://tvnz.co.nz/q-and-a-news/ruth-roger-me-andrew-dean-video-6319170

Mr Key is also keeping mum about any related contact he's had with Ms Glucina. Looks like the ombudsman will be called in on this one.

They can happily claim these moves were, in fact, their ideas, if implemented slightly differently.
If they’d done that- if they’d congratulated the govt on raising benefits, but insisted it wasn’t enough – ditto on CGT – I’d agree.
But no. Little and Robertson just moaned it ‘didn’t show a plan for economic growth’ and ‘didn’t help small business’ and ‘abandoned the regions.’
Guys. People who worship economic growth, small business people and ‘the regions’ mostly don’t vote for yas. You’re sposed to be the champions of wealth redistribution; the one’s who’ll stick up for the down-trodden, the low-waged, the unemployed.
But those words just seem to stick in your throats.
Labour - too scared to be left? -
Adding a (watered down) CGT when Labour looks like having abandoned it as well as a cheap (240m is tiny) boost to benefits is very smart politics. Tacking to the centre leaving Labour no policy room – but also leaves them looking out of ideas, bleating helplessly about economic growth. I smell a 4th term :(

$25 a week is not likely raise many families out of poverty. I’m torn between saying it’s a token bone thrown – and admitting that for some it will surely make a positive difference.
What it really is is a kick in the teeth to Labour. They haven’t been a party friendly to or favouring beneficiaries since the 70s. National just threw that into stark relief.
