So what were you implying exactly?
Implying that if this sort of conspiracist propaganda spreads unchecked and widely enough, then enough scared and angry people could be gullible enough to believe it. The 'Big Lie' theory if I recall correctly.
Are the CC/NZCPR that easy enough to dismiss as fringe lunatics?

@Gio: In case anything got lost in translation, I'm not intending to Godwin. I was merely implying there's a Wishartian undercurrent of Elders of Zion-esque conspiracism about those types of people.

Yeah, the Association of Cunning Tax-evaders is a little too up-front :)
Actually, make that the Consumers & Taxpayers Association, the Consumers & Taxpayers Popular Association, the Campaign for a Free New Zealand, and the Taxpayers Popular Association.
And for a more accurate description of the Coastal Coalition's manifesto, subsitute 'iwi' and 'Maori' for Jewish. For best results, take a time machine back to 75 years in the past, then draw your own conclusions.

So why do people enjoy Roller Derby? Don't ask stupid questions. Why do people like any sport? They want to see amazing feats of athleticism performed by people who, given time and training and support, could be them.
Short answer: it's sports for those who don't usually watch sports. I'd go as far as saying it's sports for those who hate sports.

A 20 year-old DJ slowed down Justin Bieber's 'U Smile' by 800%, until it lasted 35 minutes and sounded beautiful and amazing.
Reminds me of the production of the music video for Split Enz's Strait Old Line...
The Strait Old Line video is one of Nigel Griggs’s favourite Split Enz clips. To film the slow motion effect in time with the music, the band had to mime with their instruments at double speed. Hard to do without cracking up.

Muriel Newman's latest tin-foil hattery was that the Chinese beat the Maori first to NZ, therefore NZ was terra nullius.
John Ansell and Hone Harawira are but flip sides of the same coin. A coin that simply isn't legal tender in NZ.
The keywords cited by Reading the Maps are 'honorary whites' - a term that originated in apartheid-era South Africa.

On a different note, these two recent posts on Crooked Timber have some thoughtful observations on why libertarians don't tend to do the whole "collective responsibility" thing very well. And some truly disturbing comments from offended libertarians that tend to underline the main points.
I've mentioned it before, but I can think of about one place in the world where libertarianism has been practiced wholesale - Somalia.
I was originally going to count Hong Kong, since I've heard card-carrying libertarians pointing to it as a model to follow. Apparently it's libertarian in theory only.

For those who have access to a hardcopy of today's Herald, there is a letter from Joyce on the letters page, in which he responds to criticism of his 'big truck' policy.
Sounds just like a Tony Friedlander write-up with a ministerial letterhead.

And to add to my previous post...
"F**k off! We're not the Association of Consumers and Taxpayers! We're the Taxpayers and Consumers Association!"
