Some cases deserve prosecution more than others.
Family First slated the police in support of a man with an extensive history of domestic violence and an armed robbery conviction. In pursuing that support, they minimised and flat-out lied about the facts of the case.
Must be prosecuted. Obvious really.

The change of law means that no longer do we have an independent judiciary deciding what is "reasonable" punishment of a child. Now a government department decides what punishment of a child appears "inconsequential".

Which is not what the law Key voted for actually says, but apparently he, not Parliament, is the supreme authority on such matters.
He is functionally the supreme authority. The law is subject to police prosecution except when the offence is so “inconsequential that there is no public interest in proceeding with a prosecution" and it is the government that instructs the police on the nature of relative inconsequence.

Fresh foods are always more expensive, because they have such a limited shelf life compared to processed.

I do think the Maori Party has sold out poor urban Maori – and for that matter the rest of us – with its ETS deal.
New Zealands preferred solution is a flat carbon price (functionally a regressive global tax) that will spread the burden of climate change to all the world. To support our postion we needed to adopt an ETS prior to Copenhagen and that involved some horse trading. Hopefully NZ with our like minded fellows in the OECD can now persuade India, Brazil & China to adopt this flat carbon price approach to confronting climate change. If we can do this we all stand to benefit, except obviously the Worlds poor.

There are so many celebrities, but outside of professional PR and the media on one is interested in all of them. I follow just a few, so when a celebrity commits a crime and the paper screams "Celebrity commits indecent..." I look for clues to see if its someone I have admired. This sells.
In some subsequent story, if supression is not granted, their name will be revealed. Most of the time it will be some talentless, pointless git I have never had time for, the sort followed obsessively only by the (insert derogatory group term here) demographic whose tastes as a group are unfathomable. Once I know this, I know the story - idiot behaves like idiot - which is not news and does not sell to me. Or it will be that marvellous person who I have enjoyed following and I will devour the unfolding story with interest - this sells. Celebrity stories sell, depending on the degree of celebrity the person has.
Suppression orders are a godsend to the newspapers, because they get to run the first story over and over (the one that sells unconditionally). I never get to find out* if this is a git or a talented individual.
* Except in this case, because the only current NZ entertainer celebrities I have much time for are not ever going to be in the market for blowjobs.

While many of the anti-capitalist protesters were/are principled and informed (and the Tea Party people are often simply paranoid and angry) I think there's also a shared sort of nihilism there.
BusHitler = informed nihilism.
