Singapore 1958. My little bro' in the front yard with the family station wagon.
We took the 1956 Plymouth back to NZ in 1960 (transit paid for by Her Majesty) and sold it in 1964, with Mum and Dad almost doubling the money they paid for it in '58.

I was told that many were simply shot even after surviving the war years - it was easier than shipping them back.

Isn't it great how a picture can say 1000 words.
Indeed, and matching that with Dyan's images above, I think this is pretty powerful. Taken by my great uncle Julian in 1915. He was later killed in France, where he remains to this day.

Just on tip-toe as far as can recall. They were lovely - they gave me a bottle of water because they said I looked hot (it was mid 30s).
I thought of them several times when the protests went bad just a few days later, and then again six weeks after that.

That last food shot was one of Brigid's. She's got a very infrequent (despite my urging) food blog which I've linked to here before but don't mind doing so again.
The downside of being married to a food blogger of course is that she feels the need to photograph every meal out, and I just have to sit impatiently drooling while she does so.
Plus everyone thinks you're Japanese.
