Anyone remember the ABC/CNN/CBS newscaster's attempts to pronounce 'Mt Ruapehu' in 1995/96?

Need way better organised opposition that we have seen from the tired warriors of the trad left. Watching how much more successful these local copyright-related campaigns have been reassures me that all hope is not lost just yet.
How about the gherao?

But none of them have anything on this.

Anti-competitive Mickey Mouse greed has a lot to do with that. Propping up antiquated business models in perpetuity is the antithesis of a flourishing and prosperous business ecosystem. We can do better, unless we sell ourselves out for some baubles and a pat on the head from daddy.
Too right. The Sonny Bono Act all started with a mouse.

PS. The photo from the article I linked reminded me of the UK Tories' infamous 1979 campaign poster.

I suspect an unintended side effect of the proposed welfare changes is that many of those currently in work are probably going to be more bolshie about their job security. How bolshie exactly? If worst came to worst, possibly a replay of the Synovate episode, not unlike what's happened in France.
Like dropping out of high school, going on welfare isn't something people feel comfortable admitting as there is a huge social stigma attached to either.
Too bloody right. From my own experiences, it's not a lifestyle choice, but more akin to a prison minus the walls. It's an insult to our collective intelligence - not much could debunk the myth more so than the 2,000 people queueing for 150 jobs at the new Sth AKL Countdown supermarket. Not that intelligence matters much to those movers and shakers who think Kath & Kim is a training manual.

Basically, 3410, you're right on the money. Isn't it just delightful that the IRB sets foreign policy?
There was a similar thing with the ICC's stance on Zimbabwe when President Mugabe's goon squads were forcing people off their lands and rearranging their faces.

From another part of the Pacific Rim, Simon Grigg has been passing on useful reports and insights on the trouble in Bangkok – and indulging in some justifiable venting about the lack of coverage in the New Zealand media over the weekend.
Wasn't it Bill Ralston who closed down TVNZ's Hong Kong bureau? And Charlotte Glennie was subsequently lost to the ABC.
As to the wider issue, it speaks volumes that our media industry is inane enough as it is, without Murdoch's help.
