It was very, very, very inspiring - tiring, too, but in a good way. The coffee machine helped a lot. :)
Everyone were really as you say in "Foo Mode" in that you only needed to appear and the discussion would start. Or, the demo of an app someone was working on, minus the sales shpiel of course.
Talking to Cunliffe minus the filter of officialdom was great. I would say that he too benefited enormously from having unfiltered access to people and it kind of cemented my impression that consultants and policy wonks/lobbyists distort the democratic process by adding an unnecessary layer of sometimes intentionally incorrect interpretation of factual matters.
Here's hoping Baa Camp becomes a regular event. My hand is up already to help out in any way I can to make sure it happens again.

__In NZ The Race card doesn't work__
Doesn't it? Seems to be the ace that trumps Immos in general and "Asians" in particular, especially if accompanied by a choir of dog-whistles when played.

Tracy, I'm confused now, having read this SMH piece.
Seems prices are going up in some areas - a great deal too - and falling in other parts of Sydney.

I don't know how Sydney fares in terms of sprawling, but I am curious as to why house prices there are dropping while in Auckland (and presumably the reset of the country too) are rocketing.
Auckland has plenty of sprawl already, I'd have thought. Not much smaller than LA, area-wise, and it'll only take a trip up to Albany, Glenfield or the Eastern Bays to realise that that's not desirable development. The Botany area's a shocker too.
That said, people have to have roof over their heads, and ideally, not be forced to live in illegally converted pig sties in the Waitakeres.

Apropos Rita the Graphics Designer's immigration woes: were they perhaps to some extent self-inflicted?

That was very good indeed. I am reminded of the Modest Proposal of many years ago, a perfectly reasonable suggestion that was turned down by socialist namby-pambies, for they existed at that time too.

So will Keith get the NZ Foreign Correspondent of the Year Award for this?
Or should that be: Only NZ Foreign Correspondent of the Year Award?
Very much enjoy reading the dispatches... an Alistair Cooke in the making :)

Six month work permits is much too short. New Zealand is so far away from everywhere... should be two-year ones at least.
