I get a sense of weary resignation reading this post, is that me?
Why does this govt abuse written communication like this?
“The most at risk” are always going to be the poor.
“social investment”?
Could we get a living wage FFS…Annual wages rises in line with inflation?
What happened to them?
Why has everything that took decades to work out gradually disappeared. For those not interested in being an “entrepeneur”
And the “global economy” is not an answer, its an excuse…
All words out of some peoples mouths are spin, and thats lying to suit one's own end's. -

One thing that’s confused me over John Campbell’s reporting yesterday and tonight, though, is why people are reportedly being charged absurd amounts for emergency accommodation…. then “loaned” thousands of dollars to cover its use for a matter of days, then being required to pay it back, when they’re supposedly already eligible for social housing.
Its called a money-go round! On this fairground attraction you can feast on the illusion that everyone is making money and it will last forever WWWeeeeeeeee!
Except the people being screwed over of course... but they will never be able to afford to play this game anyway cause they're, yes you guessed correctly, POOR
WOOHOO! -

Phewww there some reading there.
Spin, misrepresentation, manipulation, intimidation, obfuscation and censorship, some from government ministers, some internal, from management, but also peer pressure,
That about sums it up.Yet it is dressed up as science. An abuse of the word, and a beacon for what not to do...
It feels as if it needs a grade and comment... C- Can do better -

don’t think a ruling body of such wise people would be a good idea
Damian has said it was a throwaway line. but onward...
Um how can you tell if someone, anyone has wisdom that will be applicable to running the world as we know it.
Well they wont, easy answer. Its always going to be a guess, informed guess is the best we get.
Govts really got a kick upstairs because a portion of the worlds population got sick of being screwed over by the power possessing being in Europe at the time and they could go to a new world and start a new system. We no longer have that luxury.
So whats the way forward?
Is there one?
Funny thing! At a time when we need cooperation on a large scale and some selflessness and humility individually. A philosophy of selfishness and arrogance gains a foothold in the minds of not just our leaders but a large fraction of the population.
Yep If there is a mighty & gracious being looking on in the fabric of space time, besides pissing itself in mirth, must be wondering" WTF! When I get my hands on that Ayn Rand....."
And I'd rather take my chances with scientists informing decisions -

An articulate person would likely recieve a greater benefit than a stoic
Making up examples? In your world are the poor articulate? Met a few articulate scammers in my time, the best were beggars in the USA. I knew they were scamming me but their act was so well done it was worth the money :))
Every little bit helps I guess -

But if practice it’s likely to lead to corruption and injustice.
If the corruption favours the disenfranchised Great! And Injustice? where did you dig that up from? Injustice to who? Or are you just throwing buzzwords around and making up dodgy examples?
I have a problem with that?

When Minister, Paula Bennett, was full of praise of this kind of research, talking personally with the “advisor” Aylward, Director of that Centre.
Using that kind of research to inform social policy is a mistake, a very bad mistake.
Its mainly statistics and surveys not bad in themselves just that when they are used in social polic,y which is about people, there is going to be failings. Because people are individual and all will never fit some kind of norm and need to be dealt with as individuals.
To me that is the only way forward in social policy, deal with each individual person not work everyone into a 'one size fits all' legislation and stop fretting about cost. This is not a business, its people!
And yeah I know that is not the way many govts think. We have tried this kind of model before, it’s called theocracy.
Your thinking of failed models such as most of those in monotheistic cultures and all predate the rise of science by centuries. Not good examples. And examples from Islam are seriously flawed.
