… and now viewed through a rising red mist…
N.B. giving Trump a “40% chance of winning” is very emphatically not the same thing as saying Trump is polling at "40% of the popular vote" (among likely voters). I think these two very different types of measurement are getting confused in the current discussion.

Hard News: On seclusion rooms, in reply to
Don’t even need to re-cast it – what typically follows “secluded” is bad enough. Trawl through the top hits for “took him to a secluded spot” and there’s violent assault, murder, or rape on almost every page. (The same search with “her” yields much the same results.)

What measurable metrics are used to determine likely voters?
The “screen” is simply a question fairly early in the sequence asking whether the respondent believes they will vote: if the answer is “no”, then the questionnaire may be terminated at (or shortened from) that point. (N.B. also removes those who will be too young to vote at the time, without asking for exact age.)

None of this should be treated as entertainment
(he says, not quite resisting the urge to make the obvious joke
about really not wanting to know about Trump's position) -

Come to think of it, the only other “banter” excuse I’ve heard trotted out by politicians in recent years concerned Mr. “Grab ’em by the ponytail”.
(Ah, yep, that's what you linked to.)
