right-wing campaigns are overwhelmingly likely to use the tactics of junk email scams.....
...because they know they work with their voter base?

Scott Foval, the Dem contractor named, has in fact resigned
I can't find that on any 'reputable' web site. So far all I have found comes from James O'Keefe himself. There is a comment that Fox News reported it but there is nothing about it on their web site.

The 1860 US presidential campaign featured a fractured Democratic party, a huge and antagonistic sectarian divide, paramilitary groups parading around in support of their party, lots of shots fired at political rallys, all sorts of political violence in local elections, and the main losing Democratic candidate going on to be come a leading general in the Confederate army....
The key difference between 1860 and 2016 is any Trump insurgency would be just that - wild milita groups and crazy individuals might carry out random lynchings and attacks, but Clinton will have full control of and loyalty from the US military and governing apparatus at federal and state level. Nothing like succession, and therefore civil war, will come from this election.

Anyone else followed the gruesome descent into Trumpism of the once normal Colonial Viper over at the The Standard? It is fascinating from a forensic viewpoint, because he is a textbook example in our own online community of how an aggreived person with an issue with "the establishment" can be turned by alt-right online media into a raving lunatic.

One user wrote: "Trump tried to kiss a little girl at his rally tonight and she isn't having it."
After spotting the girl in the audience, Trump said: "By the way, that is the most beautiful little girl."
Inviting her on stage he asked: "Hi, do you want to come up and see me? Do you want to come up? Come on!"
When handing the girl back to her parents, he praised their parenting skills, saying: "Congratulations. What a job. What a beautiful person you are. They did a good job."http://www.nzherald.co.nz/world/news/article.cfm?c_id=2&objectid=11731820
Why do politicians feel the need to manhandle children and kiss babies?

I don't spend much time at The Standard Tom, mainly because they have so many active trolls on the site. So I wouldn't say I've followed the descent. I'd always assumed that CV always bent pretty far to the right, but I'd agree that some of his recent posts seem more unhinged than usual.
It is a little sad to come across kiwis who have bought into the Trump rhetoric to that degree. But I guess deplorables come in all shapes and sizes.

Snopes looks at O’Keefe’s four 2016 videos and does a great job of explaining why no media organisation goes near them. He’s a lying, unethical scumbag, basically.

Remember Trump speaking about cyber-security during the first Presidential debate? His earlier comments about "the cyber" made it clear that Trump's knowledge of cyber-crime was as well-informed as his knowledge of... well, just about anything. Luckily for the free world, Trump has an expert on hand... his son Barron.
So we have to get very, very tough on cyber and cyber warfare. It is — it is a huge problem. I have a son. He's 10 years old. He has computers. He is so good with these computers, it's unbelievable. The security aspect of cyber is very, very tough. And maybe it's hardly doable.
Now here's a thing. Some geeks have discovered that the entire Trump Organisation is running seriously outdated software on their email servers in the form of Windows 2003. Yep... you read that right. Thirteen year old MS software, unpatched and internet-facing.
The researchers say they haven't hacked Trump's servers, but with the story hitting headlines around the world, it won't be long before somebody breaks in and reveals some more damning facts about America's favourite orange turd.
And it's worth noting that Win2003 server software pre-dates the birth of Trump's son by a good three years.

I'd generally agree with you that there won't be anything like secession, but I would not be at all surprised if there is a very large upswing in the militia and random crazies types of activity. Yes, the military will swing in behind Hillary, albeit perhaps not entirely whole-heartedly at the level of many/a majority of the indivduals within it, because as an organisation it is a creature of the system that she is a part of.
However, at the local (non-federal) level of law enforcement (elected sherrifs and so on), there are a lot of trump supporters/hillary haters, who.....may not be entirely enthusiastic about reigning in or investigating that type of stuff. Or, even if willing to do so, may not have the resources (I read yesterday that due to budget cuts, some sherrifs departments no longer offer 24/7 9/11 response).

Admittedly, that serial user of women is always going to have children younger than [some recent software platform]...

The Weimar Republic was also like that during its short existence, especially after the Great Depression delivered the knockout blow.
It's also potentially raised another question: how far would the 2nd Amendment's most die-hard defenders push its limits? How far would they be prepared to violate the others, especially the 1st, 4th, 6th, 7th, 10th, 13th, 14th, 15th, and 19th?

To be very, very charitable, O'Keefe makes Lynton Crosby and Karl Rove look like Seymour Hersh.

I really don't think anywhere in the developed world has any kind of chops for actual insurrection. As tooled up as nutty Americans may be, their various forces are like a thousand times more tooled up. We are talking about a country that rains death from the skies all around the world.
But maybe they need an incident or two to wise them up about their stupid arse gun laws. An attempt by a militia on the President's life at the instigation of some billionaire idiot? I don't see even a Democrat administration taking that lying down.

For this debate the Trump sideshow will feature Malik Obama, The current President's estranged half-brother. The Washington Post has a profile of Malik which begins...
Malik Obama is exactly the kind of man that Donald Trump says he'd like to keep out of the United States. He's a Muslim. He comes from Kenya, a country that has been racked by unrest in recent years and has been the target of terrorists from Somalia, who have fashioned themselves as Islamists. He currently has between three and 12 wives — he won't say exactly how many — and, clearly, doesn't adhere to traditional American family values, however you might define them.
Journalist David Maraniss provides some interesting background on Malik. For a start, his real name is Roy.
Trump has also invited the mother of one of the Benghazi victims who accuses Hillary of "murdering" her son.
That Trump. He's all class, eh!

Trump's campaign manager Kellyanne Conway really outdid herself yesterday when she told MSNBC that the orange slug has "a 5-point plan to defeat Islam".

Taking a wild guess:
1) Divide (& rule)
2) Dehumanise
3) Divert (attention from scrutiny)
4) Deploy (armed mobs)
5) Deny -
The media reaction to this last debate is divided, not into "his v hers", Reps v Dems, but between those who get what just happened, and those who don't.
The latter are dullards still on auto-pilot, declaring who won which section and overall, as if it were just another debate. It's quite revealing (if a little eye-rolling) to watch people miss the point in a "How did you enjoy the play, Mrs Lincoln?" kinda way.
Whereas those who paid attention realize that none of the traditional point-scoring matters a jot. Because one candidate just pissed on the election itself. His team of spinners are now desperately un-pissing but too late - it doesn't flow uphill.
I almost feel sorry for Republicans. Almost.

Pretty much. Tomorrow isn't going to be about how the judges scored it, or the latest "sensational" anti-Clinton video. Tomorrow's headlines are going to be about Trump hedging on accepting the outcome. According to RNZ, when he did that people int the studio audience gasped. He lost everything that one moment.
-
There's only conspiracy theory that won't fly with his supporters, and it's the one most supported by recent events:
Trump is a Democrat plant intent on stealing the election from the Republicans.

I can't buy that idea.
Trump entered the field of his own volition with a turbo-charged version of the message that the Repubs have been priming their base with..
He got lucky with that but now things have gotten real and he's been found out.
He is a creature that the Republicans brought into being with their racist and evangelical dog whistling and have only themselves to blame for what has been a hostile takeover by an outsider.

Yes. I have been thinking a lot on the story of Frankenstein's monster recently, although he was actually sympathetic and all the more tragic because of it.
Although not actually banned in the US at any point, I doubt 'Frankenstein' is on many repubs reading lists (not only written by a woman, but one of somewhat dubious morals, don'tchaknow). So perhaps something from their own favourite book:
"Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap." - Galatians, 6:7
