Weirdly the British Premier League continues to be great old fun, even if the talent on display is fairly over-rated, while the English national team continues to fade into the worst kind of mediocre rubbish. Kinda the opposite to NZ rugby.
As a Hurricanes supporter I couldn't be happier (although, as a Hurricanes supporter, I'm expecting the bubble to burst any day now), however I haven't seen any of it either.
Watched one Crusaders game on Prime. They were shit.

It was a lot better when we could get up to dance and Neneh herself was on fire, but I wasn't completely won over by the material, which got a bit synth-rock for me at times. Peter McLennan begs to differ in his review for the 13th Floor.
C'mon Russ, Neneh Cherry, Rocketnumbernine and Four Tet? That's a fine collision right there. Great review by Peter Mac as well!

Thought I'd throw this in the mix, The mystery of Mingering Mike: the soul legend who never existed.
Yep, that was an excellent yarn.

Courtesy of Gilles Peterson, tracing the history of London's Pirate Radio stations. These (and Peel) made me fall in love with radio. The chaos and freedom of the north and east London dub pirate stations was a joy.

Plastic People, the small, famous basement club in Shoreditch, London, closed down last week, after more than 20 years. Floating Points and Four Tet played the final night and have posted the recording of the whole evening (just shy of six hours of it) to Soundcloud:
Brilliant set list, that. We all know DJ'ing isn't brain surgery but apparently neither would trouble Sam Shepherd (Floating Points) too much as, when not beat bashing, he's currently completing his PHD in neuroscience.

Top that Diplo!

Hard News: Friday Music: So much music I…, in reply to
I consider myself of around average intelligence and have used an app before, so it should be easy right, but nothing, NOTHING, has made me feel as lost, hurt and confused as the Spotify UX. It’s likes it actively hates music, listening to music, or people who do in fact want to listen to music.
I am genuinely relieved to confirm that it's not just me.
Not only that but it's so overbuilt it's as slow as a wet week to load, search etc... Nasty experience. One day someone will create a music service that is a pleasure to use.

Hard News: Music: To renew, you first…, in reply to
My other main memory is, groggy after 24+ hours of travel, having to pick up the 50kg chest from the moving luggage carousel. And, fortunately, getting it first time.
Good times!
Now, if you manage any further record store capers and just happen to come by the Forward Down A Channel One 12" by African Youth, snap it up! ...and we can negotiate a hearty reward for bringing that little gem home to papa. :)

I certainly have vague anxiety inducing memories of trying to get overstuffed vinyl cases back to NZ via hand luggage. For purchasing new vinyl copies of classics from all genres at a decent price, you can't go passed Dunedin online shop "Noise Worth Hearing". Brilliant for reggae, funk, hiphop, punk etc...

Highly recommended!

Hard News: Friday Music: An accompanied korero, in reply to
I'm most excited about track one. Not only is it a new track from Stromae, but it also features Pusha T, Q-Tip, Haim and Ms Yelich-O'Connor herself. Hurry up, 17 November!
Impressive indeed!
