The issue is that ref's seem to need the drop and roll before they're willing to give a penalty. Wrapping, grabbing and pulling seem to be increasing in the game precisely because defenders know that if the player doesn't drop, they're likely to get away with it. The odds work in defenders favour.
I only saw the first half but was pleasantly surprised at how positive a game it was from both sides, with both sides having decent chances. Brazil were nervous but they'll be a bit more carefree now that they have a tough 3 points in the bag.
Don't you just love that Brazil's goalkeeper is 3rd choice at newly promoted Queens Park Rangers? What a strange old world...

Brazil looked a bit nervous early on and who can blame them. Came back well though. I only saw the first half but really enjoyed it, really open play and several chances each way.
I think that claim to the title just got a little stronger today.

I'm with John Oliver. FIFA are the worst people on the planet and I hope the Brazilian people kick up a fuss about it. But I'm also hella looking forward to the matches and hope Brazilans get some joy out of the tournament they've paid so dealy for.
It's hard not to see every major world tournament like this not being without accompanying protests in future.

Spain's to lose. Easily the most talent stacked side. But tis the World Cup and randomness generally prevails, so hmmm Germany ? - Solid solid solid.
They're certainly right up there but maybe a little more defensively brittle than in previous tournaments with no super permed Puyol at the back. Also have Xavi getting older so how he'll last through the tournament will be a factor. Think Diego Costa will also prove important, most particularly his recovery from the hamstring injury.

No, England, not so much robbed as rubbish. They last won the Cup around the time I had my 2nd Birthday. I'm now just a few weeks from hitting the Big Five Zero.Think they were a bit unlucky with the penlalties hoodoo in 1990. That was a good side who, if they could have passed Germany, faced a lack lustre Argentina and a cynical, ageing Maradona in the final. Since then though, all down hill.

Hard to go past Brazil really, however Germany and Spain wold be no surprise (surprised Silver has Spain rated so low) and Argentina and the Netherlands (again, so low?) will be a chance. England have no chance, won't stop the hype though, although my mate Sean puts it very nicely here at Stuff.

I am enjoying the long tail and now if I like someone I check to see if they are on bandcamp because I know that is the quickest and best way to get $ to them without all the waitig and fee deductions of the alternative systems.
Agreed, Bandcamp is more and more becoming my first stop off along the digital music purchasing process.
