  • Speaker: The Hollow Men: Initial Impressions,

Hmmm, all this talk about '6 National insiders' feeding the emails to Hager - followed by strenuous denials from the Party.

Who noticed Mr English had, by all media reports, 6 people backing him for leadership. Hmmmmmmmm.

I've always thought they must have come from disgruntled ex English staffers or supporters.

  • Viewers' Choice,

I saw part of 'In a land of plenty' on Maori TV last night. Man, that is hard hitting stuff. Good to see MTV put up shows of importance to our society. That channel is what you call 'public broadcasting'. Now if the other public channels got on the same wavelength we might even get a public realm.

  • Depravity, anyone?,

You see, it is shows about public service which are what people want to watch.

Why are there so many shows about doctors and nurses (ER, Grey's Guts, Chicago Hope, etc), political operatives (The West Wing, Commander'n'Cheaf), naughty firemen... the list goes on.

Funny comedies about lawyers might also count as associated with the US justice system, but perhaps that is not what you are getting at.

So what is it about public service that makes for such voluminous scheduling? Perhaps it is hard to write interestingly about the internal workings of a tax accountancy firm.

In good news, I have heard that the prevalence of forensic science shows on TV has ensured that there a glut of students willing to learn their periodic tables coming through the schools.

  • Viewers' Choice,

Eating Media Lunch, which I see is arriving back on our screens in the extremely accessible Friday evening slot...

I think Agenda could have been up for best current affairs, or at least best current affairs start-up, but they seem to have gone goo-goo over the past few months in my opinion (happy to hear others thoughts on this).

Agree on OF, our flat is glued of a Tuesday evening.

  • If the Straitjacket Fits ...,

If they ban fireworks, will there be cool stores that sell them out the back, like that Simpson episode where Homer buys fireworks amongst pornography and moonshine. Classic.

There is a Simpsons episode for every social commentary.

Is there anywhere in NZ that sells bangers? I will pay good money.
