Recruit the vulnerable, e Jackie- name of the game innit?
-
O, your jaw's okay Groke!
-
Andin- I said what I think based on what I know to date: I dont think an innocent man has been found guilty. The other option - for me- is to wait & learn what further evidence/interpretation of evidence comes up.
ScottY - I mentioned my appreciation of English Common law: I think (from my tiny insights into that system) it can be improved. And learning from both Continental law (paticularly French) and Scots legal system - both legal systems with histories as long as - or longer than - English Common law, could be A Good Idea.
-
Ian MacKay, not wrong - I did 4 units of a law degree waaay back in the 1960s and wound up with a profound appreciation for Common Law and 'our' (essentially, English-based case & statute) law system- and worries. All law is subject to Parliamentary over-ride here...and I really liked the idea of a(Continental law-based) examining magistrate
(there's something a wee bit similar in Scots law.)The Bain case truly needs to be re-litigated, reguardless of cost. Myself, I dont think an innocent man has been found guilty BUT- there was *so much* trampling over (in the most literal sense)of evidence-
My worry is, that the truly useful (dna) evidence was untimely discarded: if anything useful comes out of the expenditure on this case (aside from a convincing verdict* for some closure for other Bain family members) a judicial direction for KEEPING dna material for at least 30 years would be a bloody good thing--and maybe, we could look at the Scots verdict of "Not proven"?

I've given up buying the Christchurch 'Press' (after 40 years.) I've given up buying the 'Greymouth Star' (after 35 years.) I share a subscription for the ODT with my mother (she copies the codecrackers but leaves the rest intact, and sends a pile over once a fortnight.) After I've zoomed through them with my trusty cutter, they tend to go to neighbours, who are making new garden beds.
I dont miss the physicality of the other papers at all. They're combersomely large; they dont automatically increase their type size;
they're full of crap I dont want to read *at all* (helloooo, fashion/sports/tv/advertising pages!) and most of the interesting stuff I can get on-line anyway...In South Westland, there are 3 little giveaway papers - SW Scene , comes out occaisionally(aimed largely at loopies but with some local news articles); SW Timex, comes out weekly, more local news, and relevant local ads, and "Community Contact", put together by a team of volunteers and supported by donations from local groups, which contains very local SW newsas in from Ross south (including a newsletter from the local cop, and local DoC), and minimal ads. There is very little opinionisng; just rather general reports of local activities & events. The last is A4-sized, the other 2 A5.
Way the newsprint scene is going?

I'm big-breasted (we're talking 42/D cup if I wore one) and I *hate* any kind of restrictive clothing (or shoes). I buy everything one size larger. Annnnd, put anything tight round my throat is the right way to get such a person throttled...
but, hey! I've worked hard on physical jobs (mixing & pouring the foundations of your house anyone?) without any kind of bra- and while I thoroughly appreciate the shexay bit Emma - well, y'know, asex person here-
-
I havent worn a bra since I was 18...and a -corset???
But each to their own- -
The RNZ ref has slunk away into night&abnegation...
yeah, agree Russell - I should've put astonishment marks round the whole headline- it was just really strange to be reading stuff here, and then switching to RNZ and finding - gak.
O, is Poneke's site now permanantly behind a Wordpress log-in? Pity.
-
It gets worse: the RNZ site has this- "Internet predators target 1 in 4 *children*" (my emphasis.)

O gawd Sofie! That does it! Off to do some cooking, dribble dribble drool-
