  • Hard News: Back in the mainstream,

Facebook lets "public figures" create pages that are halfway between a personal profile and a group.

How do they judge a "public figure"? Wiki page that hasn't been deleted for non-noteworthyness?

  • Speaker: Legislating in the Twilight Zone,

As each of the 6 parties had a member on the committee considering the EFB, that means that ACT, for instance, had around 50 times as much representation per voter as Labour or National.

Surely that renders complaints about not being able to get up on a Monday for the committee meetings a bit silly.

  • Speaker: Legislating in the Twilight Zone,

I think the Nats had every opportunity to do what they did on the s____g bill and come up with some constructive suggestions. Instead they chose the yelling and screaming approach.

making it hard for members of smaller parties Act and the Maaori Party to always have someone present.

The Maori party has more MPs than UF. ACT could solve their problem with lack of MPs by getting more people to vote for them?

  • Hard News: Because that's how I roll,

the phone cord had become tangled around a power cord

Doesn't that say something about the quality of technology that is ADSL? Not to mention the Sky issue, which I had and solved by unplugging my Sky box (with zero impact on the telly that came through it). My ADSL in an old house was crap because of old telco wiring.

As an intermediate technology I guess it's filling a gap, but are we going to get something more robust one day?

You know, I bet people would get really upset if someone was to get convicted for blowing up the Dom Post building and then a left-wing publication were to use the headline:
Dom Post attacker "guilty" of terrorism

    KevinHicks:

all our lovely money the incumbent politicians are sitting on

I find it amusing how people who make their living in the public sector can believe that tax money, instead of paying the wages of themselves and their colleagues, is being squirrelled by politiciians.

My parents do this. They both did (excellent) public sector or government funded jobs for most of their working lives and receive substantial pensions from those jobs. Yet they fondly believe that their taxes are going straight into Gordon Brown's bank account.

Moreover, as an AA member, I primarily want to get my car sorted if it breaks down.

If they start telling me how I should vote, then I'll be writing to the Commerce Commission about their monopoly of breakdown service.

  • Speaker: Legislating in the Twilight Zone,

The Greens have removed that underage stuff from the bill.

And yes, an organisation isn't going to be able to collect $$$ from its members and spend up on electoral, as opposed to issue based campaigning. That's the whole point.

Most Labour politicians live on their salaries and a few investments - I don't believe there are any with tens or hundreds of millions in the bank like National's backers.
