Heck, youtube beckons there too..
Meanwhile I'm still trying to track down that classic gem featuring Rod Vaughan being introduced to Bob Jones' knuckes.

The Monty Python YouTube response reminds me of the Bare Naked Ladies' response to Napster a few years back - instead of litigation, they uploaded fake 'trojans' of their own songs:
The imposter files begin with a sample of each expected song before breaking away to an offbeat marketing pitch for the band:
"Although you thought you were downloading our new single, what you actually were downloading is an advertisement for our new album," says Page in one of the Trojan-style downloads.
Page and Stewart also engage in light-hearted banter throughout the downloaded files, pretending to grapple with getting their songs on Napster. One clip ends with a tongue-in-cheek quip from Stewart.
"We fooled you, huh? We're sneaky like that. You can never trust a Canadian," he jokes. "Next thing you know we'll be supplying your natural resources."

Act wants the action and they're getting but are going to have to watch they don't talk themselves into a corner if they're raising the volume on Issues National knows are poll poison.
Or a molotov magnet.
What makes me think that the Key/Hide relationship will be much like the Lange/Douglas one?
Speaking of Lange, remember when he remarked, "the country couldn't continue to be run like a Polish shipyard"? Well, Colorado TABOR and the Deane-era Telecom sound remarkably similar in practice.

It would be rather nice if Auckland could sustain seven daily newspapers, but I don't see it happening any time soon. And, Rich, I still don't see any future Labour-lead government being in any hurry to get into the newspaper game. I'm sure they can find more agreeable red ink generators.
You're right, we're not likely to see a Kiwibank of print media. However, if the proposed Kiwi Ofcom comes to pass, and it's extended to cover print media, some much needed competition may not be that far-fetched.
Failing that, some organised consumer vigilantism might do the trick.

This may have been mentioned before, but urban legend has it that a certain high school in Melbourne, where two-thirds of the students are of ethnic minority descent - in Aussie terms that's mostly non-Polynesian ethnics - was unable to recruit enough players for its First XV. If anyone can Google that info, I'd be most grateful, because I haven't found it anywhere so far.
-
Tom: I think that's what the proposed Kiwi Ofcom is intended to address. Here's hoping it'll cover print media too.

At least non-krumping would be better than line dancing any day. Actually, anything's better than line dancing any day.

Oh, that's right, we're all trying not to say it, huh?
Depression.
How about Depression 2.0?

It seems to me that the whole 'Region n' thing for DVDs is a crock. Why can't we all watch the same DVDs in a global village?
The answer's simple: the MAFIAA.
