  • Hard News: Rethinking the EFA,

I don't know who Chris is, but I think everyone should feel free to mock him while he's looking silly. It can be our wee bit of revenge for any part he had in bringing us Roger Douglas.

A little backgrounder by Brian Rudman at the Granny:

Saga of Onehunga Labour Party house ends with whimper

  • Island Life: What I saw at the product launch,

In addition to Nikki Kaye's active campaigning, Judith Tizard resting on her laurels, and boundary changes, there was another factor in the Ak Central seat - the Green candidate Denise Roche providing a spoiler effect.

  • Hard News: Prospects,

Andrew E & Matt L: It's a safe bet that many of those who swung to Key on Saturday wouldn't be too pleased if Rodney & Roger end up wagging the dog. If that came to pass, Rod & Roger shoudn't be too surprised if it all goes French.

Philip M & Giovanni: There seems to be an urban-suburban divide within the city centres. The most recent graphical data I have available is from the 2005 election, but I'd imaging the pattern wouldn't be too different this time round.

Ian Mc & Tony P: Not much different from the mentality that drove the Japanese school system up until recently? I'll give it credit for their school uniform styles though.

Like that time when Doonesbury creator Garry Trudeau endorsed Dubya because "he'd be good for the comedy industry."

Che - was that during the morning? I didn't come across any rosettes at all.

  • Hard News: Prospects,

Voted at the Michael Fowler Centre during lunch break. Surprisingly un-crowded and quick, the officials knew their stuff.

  • Hard News: History is now,

50 pages and nearly 1000 responses. Surely a record breaker.

It's nearing the record set by the Veitch thread so far.

A big hand to the incoming Obama presidency.

  • Hard News: God's squads,

I say we nuke Tauranga from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

I know of a much simpler and cheaper solution. When there's a video about to be played in a public hall, secretly switch the real DVD for something like this. And sit back and count the number of fatal coronaries on the spot. ;D

  • Hard News: Punk'd?,

More a matter of mucking up our smaller, more fragile banking system at the time. Don't get me wrong, RichFay were total arseholes who deserved jail rather than knighthoods. Though media cheerleaders at the time would never have told the public that, and so all they would have noticed was the disruption in their personal finances.

If the British are able to freeze Icelandic bank assets to protect British investments, maybe NZ could do the same with FayRich? About the only other way to recover the missing millions is a class-action lawsuit by wronged shareholders.

    Mark:

It is a little ironic that some of the people most up in arms over Ian Wishart's despicable book about Helen Clark's supposed secret life are this morning quite happy about the "smearing" of John Key.

Last I heard, said book was starting to end up in the bargain bins. No one seemed to take it very seriously to start with. I myself thought it was unintentionally funny.

    Julie:

John Key and the National Party may not have more than 4 areas of employment law (to use but one eg) that they intend to change, but I suspect Wayne Mapp and the EMA have a longer wish list. And without policy to the contrary, and with an Act-minded coalition partner who wants to repeal all minimum employment rights and let common law prevail (that's what their policy says), they may get just such an opportunity.

I remember when Rodney spoke of a 'bonfire of regulations' not too long ago. Will he count on the smouldering litigation that might follow?
