    That was Toy Love,

My mistake they still had the black transit tho..? The name change passed me by till OZ And it was definitely the Enemy at an outdoor gig in Orewa(of all places) Still amazingly energetic

most of the covers bands at Zwines

Were pretty ordinary but they were having a go, bless'em.
It was too easy to blow them off the stage, as CB did in their only appearance there.

  • Hard News: Friday Music: All Being Well,

you can see why they terrified all the local punkers when they hit Auckland:

did they? Not how I remember it. Sure, mebbe, some of the new romancers who were punk pretending at the time. They were fierce live, sure but great musicians and Chris knew how to put on a show. A performance at a Snakestudio bash was one highlight I remember.
But other than that genuine people.

  • Hard News: Stories: Home,

I had no concept of home growing up. I thought, naively, NZ was home, specifically west AK. But growing up I heard stories from my parents of casual racism(dad was from Croatia and married a NZ girl) much to her mothers disapproval. And at work dad when an adolescent unable to read or write english and speaking with an accent. One specific incident comes to mind.
As an apprentice brickie after labouring for a while he was given a first small wall to build, which he completed well. When it was finished the foreman( a "pommie" apparently) wandered over and kicked the wall over with no explanation, just a laugh.
Boy! what would that do to your self esteem.

Having been to Croatia twice I find the climate suits me and there is still family land there, but I cant get there for one reason, money.
So I imagine I'll live out my years in NZ not really feeling like its home.
Not thats its wrong, just not quite right.
I dont really gel with most pakeha NZers in particular those of English descent.
But if they rub along with me I'll return the favour.
We've all just got to get along somehow.

  • Hard News: Ten Thousand Maniacs,

It’s hard to even conceive of what could ensue from the full-scale ground war that US Republicans seem to be cheering for,

    But some really want too…
    Which is dumber than…anything.
And yes WAR what is it good for

There is a simple solution but it requires humility by all parties and that doesnt come easily too many

    “can the government help?”

It used too, but the problems rolling down the tracks towards you young 'uns just makes our current lot fall back on trite, small minded solutions, while touting what a great job thy're doing. A fools paradise.
And as a 60 something I kinda look forward to dying just hope its not to painful.
Where are the drugs? yes the illegal ones

  • Speaker: Built heritage, special places…, in reply to Tina Plunkett,

Bring back the community hui’s with a pile of kids in the corner I say!

Well yes we all need to be involved to build a sense of community, kids especially, seeing their elders working together and the results can only be a good thing.
this segmented society with disconnected cliques making decisions behind closed doors with little or one sided discussion is just wrong.
What are the rest of us supposed to do?
oh Thats right, cheer on our thugby team.
I might care if it all wasnt so commercialized(ugly word)

Luxury I'm sure thanks Tina. I'm time and asset poor so am subject to the whims of others. Not an enviable place to be.
