  • Random Play: Following The Songlines,

You sound like a man who might know...

the Vector Arena - is it engineeered for crap sound or have I just been unlucky the couple of times I've been.
Both Kings of Leon and Santana had dodgy sound quality despite me being in different places within the auditorium.

It has quite put me off outlaying what I think is kinda big money for some acts who will play there but nowhere else in town.

Is it me, or is it VA?

Then you don't know how much it costs to go to the games, Fletch.

Much cheaper to get Sky & stay home...

  • Field Theory: Intense Uniformity,

Incorporate the red eyes and blood-dripping mouth into your pre-game haka while you're at it.

Kyle, I wasn't taking any rose-tinted view of how sports franchises operate. But I was taking a jaundiced view of how parenting seems to operate these days.

    Yes, child-free.

  • Field Theory: The Return,

I'm with st ephen in this...

The All Blacks were the epitome of rugby for years & years, with South Africa knocking at the door when politics and internal ructions allowed. People who were fans in those days are much less impressed with the RWC which is (rightly or wrongly) viewed as a Johnny-come-lately knockout competition.

While I would be happy for the ABs to win the RWC I am happy to accept that they are the pre-eminent international rugby team in the world. If fans of the RWC as supreme arbiter of rugby see this as a cop-out, fair enough.

South Africa's win last year and their subsequent 3rd in the TriNations devalues the worth of going by who holds the RWC. Sure enough, they can claim to be World Champions until the next tournament (and maybe beyond?) but they are obviously not the best team in the world and England are obviously not the 2nd best team in the world.

    All Blacks Uber Alles

We fixed our mortgage for another 2 years just a couple of months ago...suddenly 7.95% doesn't look like a decent rate.

  • Field Theory: Intense Uniformity,

Jeez, Tom, are you affected by this scenario in your rant, or are you ranting on behalf of others?
The simple thing is - buying the shirts is not compulsory. If parents can't equip their kids with enough savvy to realise that they are still loved despite not being able to afford this season's strip then it is hardly the fault of the NZRFU or the franchises or Adidas or whoever.

I watch the footy, I love the Highlanders, but I've never bought a Highlanders jersey. It's optional.

They are for the exact demographic that you mention - the middle-class men who can afford to indulge in their rugby fantasies.

  • Field Theory: The Return,

Super14 home & away strips - friggin mad.

Rattue is back - still friggin mad.

Is Chris Rattue a Cantabrian? or just a brain-dead one-eyed pillock? (Not that I conflate the 2, I hasten to add. If he was Cantabrian then I could sort of understand a continuing weak cheer for Robbie Deans. If not, then he's just plugging away doggedly trying to justify a previous position that is no longer tenable.)
    He's an arse, anywhichway.

  • Up Front: Knights in White Flannel,

I had high hopes for Ross Taylor when he first came on the scene but overall he has disappointed.

Could this be because of the coaching/management stifling his natural game, or is it because he is not quite capable of making the necessary step-up to test level?

I had so wanted him to be a rock in the early middle-order, regularly getting 70 runs and anchoring the innings.
Oh well, normal service has been resumed.
