  • Hard News: On Ideas,

And I personally wouldn't want to be in a government that took on the Mother and apple pie sector that is nursing.

The government forced the junior doctors into strike action mid-2008.

  • Field Theory: Numbers Game,

What other sport allows spectators onto the field of play, to hit, throw things at, and get in the way of, shoot the players, and cross the road fatally?

That was nuts wasn't it? Needed some police officer to stick his arm out as they ran past chasing the cyclist.

Sometimes having a policeman around is not the solution.

  • Field Theory: Numbers Game,

The general downward trend of points-scored for all three teams can possibly be attributed to external factors like senior players leaving for Europe or the recent rule changes.

Or the coaches dawning realisation that 2/3s of all games will be played in conditions entirely non-conducive to expansive, risktaking rugby - at night during the middle of winter. Apparently the scheduling is arranged to accomodate Euro TV, but surely there comes a point where progression to dull defence orientated grinding styles dirves away more of an audiance than a breakfast kickoff attracts.

  • Speaker: The End of Consumerism,

What we now may be seeing, as the purchasing power of the majority fades, is the decline of consumerism and a change in the form of society.

Has the purchasing power of the majority actually faded? Adding together the poverty reduction that has occured in China, India, Brazil and other developing countries over the last 50 years gives a figure that would seem higher than any possible number of middle class 1st worlders who have seen their relative income drop.

And while the teabagging tendency drives further and further into its frenzy, the research says the people largely aren't going along with it.

Well its an astroturf isn't it? It'll arc along like the Anti-War brigades of the last lot, providing a backing focus for general discontent and picking up a few new followers who will be directed to vote against this administration. And after the current opposition are duely elected back into power, the movement will fade out of awareness even whilst those newly elected proceed with 99% of the policies the movement ostensibly opposed

  • Hard News: Our new strategy is to FAIL,

Since no money reaches the creators or publishes, it strikes me as something you'd do if your concerns about p2p are purely based on the fear of getting caught.

In the online poker community* there's political motivation pro-Antigua in the trade dispute and will see ZookZ as a gambit worthy of support.

  • Hard News: Our new strategy is to FAIL,

I don't much go for this downloading music malarky, but apparently there is a new site called Zookz that offers unlimited subscription based downloads for US$9.95 per month or US$17.95 per month for songs & movies. It effectively pays no royalties to the RIAA owners of the copyright and its legallity is based on a WTO sanction ruling against the USA violating international trade rules in favour of Antigua where Zookz is based.

  • Speaker: The End of Consumerism,

...but in your opening paragraph you point out one of the very best ways to distribute wealth more fairly in a capitalist economy: high minimum wages.

We have a global economy nowadays where the effective minimum wage is $2 per day, so we could increase that to say $5 a day.

As an aside, since this has now gone global is Greenlane about to be over run by frustrated and confused tourists?

Maybe Bravo will offer Logan Campbell a sponsorship deal, so much synergy.
