Up Front: The Up-Front Guides: The…, in reply to
Sof’- that was a lovely sane article!
Some bits did not come across as sane or knowledgeable: the Catholic bishops’ quoting of “Male & female He made them” – o no ‘he’ didnt! Think hermaphrodites & transgender peoplefor a non-settled m/f bodily form for humans, and bisexual/asexual people for differing sexual practises/no sexual practises. And when we get into other species – WAUA! Everything from parthenogenesis to fissioning! And as for poor old McCroskie and his ‘family consists of’ mother & father and the children they concieve & raise – well, bang go the families that are blended, or have whangai, or raise children they dont adopt (there are examples of all 3 within my whanau.)

Black Doris Plums on the way…
We were brought up on black doris plums & greengages as the ultimate fruit to have with custard…my mother Mary used to bottle the greengages but for a long time, the black dorises were the tinned version*. Then one of the family bought a property that had 2 trees of the things…ahhh, bliss!
Your blossoms look promising- (o, and Steve’s birthday koha finally on the way. Small but tasty-)*I occaisionally buy a tin to have with yoghurt…they dont taste quite the same…

<q> but to hold your first book is a pretty cool feeling.
I can still feel the joy of picking up the first copies of "The Silences Between (Moeraki Conversations)" way back in 1983 at the Franz Josef post office- whoa! my first book!
Cant ever happen again but was bloody good at the time-

Hard News: The question of Afghanistan…, in reply to
<q>Ah, New Zealand, continuing that fine old tradition of leaving our soldiers to beg, borrow or steal if they want any decent equipment, otherwise just leaving them to make do with whatever shit the meagre pittance of a budget our tightwad governments allow them. If we’re going to have a military, can we not just fund them enough to do their jobs properly with decent gear?
O phuque o dear yes - because almost NO politicians have been or are servicepeople - yet another reason to practise kicking pollies in the teeth (mental, physical, electoral-)
