15-6! What a result.

Sounds superb Russell, hemorrhaging kudos, fittingly timed. With Hilary I'm also hoping some of it makes it online.
And I don't mind being on the bus and eavesdropping on teenagers babbling away languages I don't understand.
Oftentimes an infinitely more interesting experience than understanding. When I first moved here (with every intention of returning to eavesdrop....on buses) it was a bit of a let down to find that the phrase I'd overheard most often in NZ net-bars was simply the Mandarin 'fuck!' -Teenagers....

Melbourne is the textbook example of doing that right
A first port of call? Or perhaps getting the best advice is seen as secondary to ensuring that advice comes from within the borders. Christopher Dempsey on Getting contestable advice (from the other thread):
Short answer – we can’t. Hard to do in a small country where the professional elite knows everyone else. This can be a problem.

Also, what does it say about our democracy when accountability for such an epic cock-up is so diffuse that no-one can be truly held accountable?
I wouldn’t call it epic, but there were a couple of cock ups for a few hours last Friday. Auckland public transport situation is a mammoth long term issue that has been swept under the carpet by successive leaderships for my entire life. No knee jerk reaction or insulated planning policy will compensate for a widespread lack of wherewithal and consideration of our futures.
When a prominent member of society who molested his child gets off scot-free citing alcohol as the cause, their name and the victim’s name suppressed in the guise of protecting the victim, gets minimal media coverage. Meanwhile here we have 2 and a half threads about trains, pain and autoreplies, a case could be made that you have exactly the leaders you deserve, that you have earned and that represent you to the hilt.

Great games. The narrowing gap between minnows and flounder bodes well.

if you actually used MSM news as your source, you’d think that the mood at the wharfs was ugly
In all fairness it all seemed to be a huge success from offshore, Sure there were a few niggles, that's par for the course when hosting. Personal inconveniences aside, New Zealand represented. Nice writing Ben.
That was a brilliant (armchair) spectacle, all of it. O for awesome.

Field Theory: Four Years Ago, in reply to
Sounds like a good time. Some of what I saw of the opening ceremony looked spectacular.
We’d missed the cranes and John Key.
Looked like he might have too, but nothing wrong with a drink to calm the nerves, aye. The only thing that seemed a little off was the mood of those three blokes in our coaching box, I got chills every time they flashed up. Isitolo Maka was laughing in the other corner and his team lost by 30 points. I hope S.H.H. can get some enjoyment out of this. It’s not that I want them to act. I just worry they may not be entirely reconciled with that element of fun required to push group activities from good to great. Appearances can be deceiving though.

Long live Robbie Deans.

Great edition Russell, well done.

It’s no more silly a record than the ‘choking’ one.
True, I enjoyed your explanation above, nice perspective.

And has been noted, we’ve never lost a single world cup game on home soil. Not one.
There was a notable absence last time.
