He all took a leaf out of the OJ playbook and said he was going to devote himself to find the "real abuser".
Maybe like OJ he'll write a book. He could call it "If I Kicked Her." Because he doesn't appear to have taken genuine responsibility for the appalling thing he did. That speaks a lot to his character.
My other objection to Veitch is that he's a boofhead. Probably not relevant to the debate, but a good reason to keep him off the telly.

Ah, but how many bloggers can afford that level of lawyer to fight him?
Indeed. Veitch's defence has always been well funded. But he has probably spent just as much on PR.
-
Yamis, we obviously have to be careful what we say on this topic, since Veitch and his legal team are aggressively pursuing alleged defamers.
It is interesting, though, because I would have thought to commit defamation a person's good name would have to be harmed. In Veitch's case, the previous "revelations" in the news media and his subsequent conviction and guilty plea would seem to call into question the current value of his reputation.

Russell, I just wanted to quickly say thank you for the great event. I had to leave after only a couple of hours, and would have liked to stay longer, but it was a pleasure being in a room filled with so many interesting and creative people.
I look forward to the next event - hopefully soon!

Stewart has been deferential to a large number of fools appearing on his show. His interviewing style is usually genial and comedic.
He did reduce Cramer to the verge of blubbering incoherency, which was fascinating in itself, but I'm not sure you would call it good comedy. And it's not Stewart's normal style. -
One day someone will make the perfect zombie flick too
Shaun of the Dead?

Latest Drudge lead: Texas governor declares sovereignty, asserts states' rights.
Didn't they try that one before? Like in 1861?

I find that the horror movies that scare/unsettle me most are the more "plausible" ones - anything with the breakdown of society, really.
I'm with you on that. I saw 28 Days Later when I was living in London. Those scenes of central London streets empty of people were just eerie.
Another unsettling film I saw recently (it was on the telly a couple of weeks ago) was Children of Men. Not exactly a classic horror film, but set in a world of horrors.

Another story that scared me I don't remember the name of or the author, but involved a person climbing a circular tower, never getting to the top and unable to stop as there was 'something' behind them.
The story was called "Copyright Must Change".

Watership Down = Hands Down most traumatising film ever experienced by kids of our generation. That beating exposed heart in the drain pipe. Holy Sheeat. WTF were my parents thinking.
Oh yeah. I remember watching that as a kid and realising suddenly that the world was a very cruel place. I still feel sad whenever I hear the cheesy theme song (I recall it was a minor hit at the time), remembering those poor fluffy rabbits and how they all snuffed it.
The Shining is one of the better horror films. I also remember being freaked out by The Exorcist, although it has been parodied so many times it's probably no longer scary.
